Steelers | Porter looking for Stevens on Sunday
Wed, 1 Feb 2006 21:18:27 -0800

Paul Zeise, of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, reports Pittsburgh Steelers LB Joey Porter is going to look for Seattle Seahawks TE Jerramy Stevens after his comments Tuesday, Jan. 31. Porter said, "Now I'm looking for him on game day; now I'm looking for Stevens. He has to line up in front of me, and that information you gave me just got me started; so I'll be out there looking for him at the 50-yard line. That information will go a long way because he can't hide from me. He has to line up in front of me, and I'll remind him of [what he said] every time I put him on his back." Porter also said that Stevens wasn't good enough to speak about anything and that he hadn't earned the respect of anyone yet. "He hasn't done anything that makes anybody fear him, while Jerome is a Hall of Famer and everybody knows about him. Meanwhile, this guy is almost a first-round bust who barely made some plays this year," said Porter.
-----------------------------------------------------------
It was only a matter of time for Porter.
If the Steelers win this guy is going to be one obnoxious dude.
Stevens said something, maybe even on purpose, to get Porter upset.
Porter couldn't handle it.
Now instead of the game plan Porter has another motive that will probably be
a distraction.
I just wonder if Holmgren is that krafty to put Stevens up to this, knowing Porter's character.
BTW Mouth Porter, Stevens is no small dude .... have fun.

Yawn! Hasn't the media been just dying for this?

Seems like Joey Porter is trying to become the next Ray Lewis IMO. Talented, yes, but with a friggin ego the size of Pittsburgh.

oh yeah

definitely.
the american media have become so sloppy and lazy it's really obnoxious. none of these suckers wants to go out and dig up stories LIKE JOURNALISTS ARE SUPPOSED TO DO. there are at least ten good human interest stories, with GOOD VISUALS, to be found around just the steelers--bill cowher and verron hayes spend time on cancer research and treatment issues, making visits to children's cancer centers and raising research money.anthony griggs, alumnus courtney hawkins, and jason tilden have become part of this effort. there is aslso a collabboration with the susan g komen foundation's work, and are involved with the annual road race. this seems to be the player's major cause.
Antwaan randle El's issues seems to be raising money for parochial schools. this off-the-beaten-path initiative suggests that he may have a parochial school background.
steelers players have been putting on football appreciation courses for women in the offseason. the players also sponsor a WOMEN'S FOOTBALL TEAM that holds a training camp in latrobe.
five steelers players have foundations.
this is from five minutes of e-research.
but those mannequins will each do a standup on what joey porter said, and then interview each other about it.
it sucks.

So Porter took Stevens' original comments and used them as the sort of bulletin board fodder players usually do, and then TURNS RIGHT AROUND and gives bulletin board motivational comments right back to the Seahawks! Way to maintain that edge, Joey.

ARE YOU KIDDING ME??

J. Stevens can't talk because he hasn't done anything in the NFL? ISN'T THIS WHAT THE ENTIRE STEELER TEAM HAS DONE FOR YEARS? talked a bunch of sh*t without backing anything up and ALWAYS losing?

This is the kinda thing that makes me HATE the Squealers more than anyone (except the Jets)

The fish has taken the bait- Porter spewed out comments about "hating" Seattle and calling them all "soft". I wonder who has the disrespect card now Joey?

You just tell that neither of these teams has experience dealing with this Superbowl stuff.

I would like nothing more than to see Porter cry at the end of the SB - and not tears of joy either. Same goes for hometown hero, Jerome Bettis.

I think all this stuff is just so blown out of proportion.. what do you expect stevens to say, "i cant wait to see bettis with the lombardi"? Of course he is going to say his team is giong to win..

so porter gave the media what they wanted

right?
some crazy comment.
now BOTH teams have some stupid $h!+ up on their bulletin boards.
everybody happy now?

This is all light weight stuff . I've been hoping for some real heavyweight stupidity but so far ther hasn't been any.

I'm bitterly disappointed.

You guys make way too much out of so-called "bulletin board material". None of that matters come gametime. Are players going to play harder/better because of what someone else said? No. It all comes down to preparation, focus and execution. The bulletin board material is something for fans to cling to.
But as far as the fans are concerned. I for one am glad something happened. Everything was just too nice going into this game. A little smack is great, especially in this matchup with the Seahawks who have no history to have established any sort of rivalry or instill any animosity towards them. This does the trick just fine.

I just hope Joey doesn't get too fired up in practice and injure himself again like he did in the preseason by celebrating his success in a pass rush drill with that stupid boot thing he does.
