I think they'll find a way to keep both Roberts and J. Jones. Promising young CBs are too valuable a commodity to let go.

Here's my first pass, which assumes Amendola, Ebner and Brady remain ineligible, Vollmer and Lewis activated:

QB (2) J.Garoppolo, J.Brissett
RB (5) D.Lewis, L.Blount, T.Gaffney, D.Brown, J.Develin
WR (5) J.Edelman, C.Hogan, M.Mitchell, D.Carter, K.Martin
TE (3) R.Gronkowski, M.Bennett, C.Harbor

In mind mind, derby has clearly passed harbor.

And Johnson might end up passing knighton if Johnson keeps playing well,

That is the case most years but not this year i think. Maybe he brings it down to 52 but not below that. This is the first camp i can remember him making so few roster moves. He likes what he has. If he were going to make it 52 then see what pops up here is how i think he does it.

Cut both Gaffney & Blount and look for a RB.
Cut Karras (try very hard to get him to the PS.. offer him a lot of PS money and see if anyone matches) and see if a guard comes loose.

The issue is whether the Pats' cuts can clear waivers.

Interesting effort.
I didn't think it was possible to squeeze all - KGH, E. Roberts and Humber - in 53 so it was nice to see that.
I dont believe BB cuts Freeney. To me as well Humber offers more at LB & ST. Then again I just saw the two games and read few reports ... I do hope for E. Roberts on PS. I see a player there.

Today it dawned on me as well that we could have a decent guard in Stork (+ better position for his head).

Cutting Develin - especially w Lewis out - is a mistake, no? You do want to at least try to run the ball?
& 6 CB is excessive with talent, needs and uncertainties at other positions.

1) I want to see the LB position become more athletic, and that to me means adding all of Humber, KGH
and E Roberts, and getting rid of the unathletic, clueless Jonny Freeny. I have no idea whatsoever what Bill sees in that useless, lumbering turd.

2) Yeah, I just don't see Stork having a future here as a Center. For his own sake, he needs to switch to RG and let Andrews and eventually Shaq Mason assume the position.

3) Develin was a tough cut, but I want to see the best players on the team, and I would rather have Harbor than Develin. Harbor offers much more in the receiving game, and is Develin really that good
of a lead blocker to justify his place on the 53? I also don't want to hear about his role on STs; our STs sucked last year, so why would we want to bring back all of the same guys just so they can suck all over again this year?

4) Is the CB position excessive with talent, or excessive with uncertainty? I want to see all 6 of them for the first 4 weeks before I'm able to make that determination.

The final cut at RB was tough, but I left Brown out on the basis that, if White gets hurt before Lewis comes back, Bolden can step in as the receiving RB. He was pretty effective in that role last year.

The last WR cut was also pretty tough. With his loss of preseason time, I figure Mitchell will probably be WR5 this year, so the competition between Washington, Dobson and Martin is for WR4. I gave Washington the nod because I think he's simply a better player than the other two, and his lack of value in ST doesn't really hurt him in this competition. Dobson doesn't offer anything in ST either, and Martin's value in the return game should suffer from a) kick returns mattering less than ever, and b) Cyrus Jones presumably taking over the PR job. With question marks surrounding the health of Edelman, Amendola, and Mitchell, I think this spot goes to the best pure WR of the group, and that's Washington.

At tackle, I wouldn't be surprised if we only go three deep, but I figure that's a position where we'll want to keep our options open. Wouldn't surprise me if the Pats grab someone else's tackle in roster cutdowns, and if so that pickup will take Fleming's place. I also went a bit heavy on the interior of the line, on account of Stork, Mason and Cooper all dealing with injuries that could nag them through the early part of the season.

DT was another tough one, as I'd really like to keep one of Johnson/Kuhn. But going 5 deep at DT would probably preclude going 5 deep at DE, which is a non-starter since we go 5+ deep in real talent at DE, plus our top 2 guys are nursing injuries and Ninkovich, in particular, is going to miss significant time at the start of the season.

LB is a weird one; I carried 5, but I wouldn't be all that surprised if we only carry 4. In prior years I wouldn't be shocked if we'd only carried 3, but since we don't have a safety who's as well-suited to play pseudo-LB as in years past (Ebner lost weight for the Olympics), that might be pushing it this year.

3) Yes I do believe Develin is really a game changing lead blocker especially with Lewis (&Mason) out. He was out all last year so he was not on “sucking“ ST.

I know it sounds strange but the news of losing him for 2015 was the biggest blow to me - and we lost some great and important players. Then Lewis came out of the blue and Develin was forgotten. But when Lewis went down our running game started suffering with the same guys we have now at #1-2.

I believe Develin might've been a season changer last year. First I don't think we would lose @Miami with him opening a little more space for Jackson and White (at the same time taking some pressure off OL and TB). And we would have much better chance with him @Den or even have a home game.

Our running game looked better vs Saints and Bears. Its hard to judge on preseason games but it's a sign. Even White had a few nice runs down the middle and I think its also thanks to Develin. I believe he would appreciate having Develin around to build on that and if he wants to even remotely replace Lewis he needs that. Moreover what happens with our running game will affect our passing game.

To me he is a game changer, especially in this RB situation.

Here is a great article on our running over Colts in 2014 from their perspective. Maybe changes your mind about #46:

Are you putting Mason on PUP with this list?
Hmmm…I have been moving Mason into the Center column, and must have done so this time without ensuring that his name was above the roster line. Had I noticed my mistake, I would have added Mason (who is Ineligible to be placed on PUP) and removed Karras.

QB - Garoppolo, Brissett (2)
RB - Blount, White, Gaffney, Bolden (4)
FB - Develin (1)
WR - Edelman, Hogan, Amendola, Mitchell, Martin, Slater (6)
TE - Gronkowski, Bennett, Derby (3)
OT - Solder, Cannon, Waddle (3)
OG/C - Thuney, Cooper, Andrews, Kline, Mason, Karras (6)

DL - Brown, Valentine, Branch, Kuhn, A Johnson (5)
ED - Sheard, Ninkovich, Long, McClellin, Flowers, Grissom (6)
LB - Collins, Hightower, Freeney, Grugier-Hill (4)
CB - Butler, Ryan, C Jones, Coleman, LeBlanc (5)
SAF - McCourty, Chung, Harmon, Richards, Ebner (5)

K - Gostkowski (1)
P - Allen (1)
LS - Cardona (1)

There are a couple or so players here that I would remove/replace, but I think that, barring injury, this is exactly how the Opening Day 53 will look.

Final wish list, based on current personnel:

QB (3) J.Garoppolo, J.Brissett, T.Brady
