It's easy, and only takes a few moments. To horse-trade your #23 pick into one (1) 2nd round pick and two (2) third round picks is classic Belichickian. That makes the score even on the first head-scratcher: Filene's Basement price for Brady-clone Cassell in exchange for team leader Vrabel and #34 draft pick.
I can't believe anyone is still scratching their head over the Cassel trade. That makes the score even on the first head-scratcher: Filene's Basement price for Brady-clone Cassell in exchange for team leader Vrabel and #34 draft pick.

Please try to understand that trades require two participants. You don't get what you think a player is worth, you can only get what someone is offering.
If the offer isn't high enough, you can
1) stand firm and keep the player,
1) trade him for what is being offered, or
3) wait and hold out for a better deal.
Once you understand that 1) and 3) weren't options, you can understand why they took 2) and you will stop scratching your head and you can then smack your forehead with your palm and say, "Oh!, I get it."
