FWIW, Giants fans seem uniformly fed up that the team kept Markus Kuhn over Quarles, who they thought showed more promise.

Jeff Howe @jeffphowe
Quarles (undrafted) apparently outperformed 2013 2nd-rounder Hankins, 2014 3rd-rounder Bromley, but NYG stuck with higher investments.

Hyperbole comment but it would so great that the team known to just churn out good to great DLineman let a good one go to the Pats while the ones they kept were busts.

This kid sounds like a player, sweet.

Hopefully he bumps vellano. I love his heart but 260 lbs DTs just don't work

Really like this addition.

He made it thru waivers to the Pats slot....700 players hit the road Saturday and front office's heads must be spinning. The organized back offices have such an advantage this time of year....at least we want to believe that.
Does any other team churn the back end of the roster this time of year like NE does.....

3 rookies on the DL.

Going from old to young. Nice balance of experience, quickness and strength on the DL. DTs Chris Jones, Siliga and Easley are a nice trio to share duties inside with Vince. Quarles on PS is good depth. Easley and Moore provide fresh speed to help with snap-counts for Chandler Jones and Ninkovich. It would great if Vince can get to the playoffs with gas left in the tank.

Have to believe a Pats O lineman will be exiting soon...10 seems extreme

Quarles isn't on the practice squad, he is on the 53.

A rookie in 2004 is different than a rookie in 2013.
Sure it is, although I don't think Wilfork was 325 since middle school. I take all listed weights with a hefty grain of salt. Vellano simply doesn't look or play like his listed weight.

I watched the last preseason game on a giants feed, and their announcers were raving about Quarles and highlighting him a bunch. Looked like a really high motor guy with some legit athleticism. I'm pretty intrigued.

Basically he's a lot better than worthy and doesn't cost us a pick. Nice.

Well, yes, and WIlfork's been listed at 325 since his rookie year.

Yep. Wilfork hasn't weighed 325 pounds since he was 8 years old.

I like this move for the Pats. He's a guy that can come in and spell Wilfork. Defends the run well and can one gap and get upfield to rush the passer.

What I like about this is that Quarles is a guy who is stout against the run and able to play NT in some packages, but able to generate pressure. He could substitute for Wilfork on 3rd down or against certain teams without being a pushover in the running game. Should help keep Wilfork's snap count down.

I don't trust team-listed weights either, but Vellano weighed in at 306 at his college pro day. I think the poster identifying him as 260 lbs. must have been thinking of somebody else.

Yep. If he sticks, he's exactly the kind of DT we've needed behind Wilfork since 2011. Looking forward to watching him play.
