Patriots sign WR Chris Hogan

I agree with the Boldin idea. That would be a very nice 5-WR group. No burners, but when have the Pats really had an outside burner since Moss?

On another note, I know we've discussed this, but any chance Belichick thinks about a guy like Hogan and calls Brady and says, "I'm thinking about getting this guy. Look at this film and tell me if you think you could work with him." ??

I'd hope so. One would think that they would have to go work out together for a couple of days before the team would commit millions to the guy and possibly pin a big part of Brady's performance to him this season.

When I hire even an entry level employee I make sure my other staff are on board with the hire. And I don't even have a Tom Brady on my staff.

Well, now were just missing the white RB to complete our transformation into the Utah Jazz :)

What's Woodhead doing these days?

Makes you wonder. What do the scouts look for? Guys like Roddy White whining about route trees apparently wouldn't work here and who would know? Maybe the scouts? Or if after all these years they don't change, then maybe they feel what they are doing is good?

If not, then I'd find who the scouts are for Pitt and hire them away. Pay them whatever since it doesn't count towards to cap anyhow.
At the Sloan Sports Analytics Conference, Caserio mentioned that they have a thing called "receiver school" for testing a prospect's ability to learn the offense. That would help explain why we've heard specific names that they don't think would fit, such as Reuben Randle in free agency this year. Hopefully we'll get the full video with some added context soon.

@dannydyn - Funny how you disagree/dislike with facts.. Like the fact that Hogan has 6 TDs, not one. Does nothing but take away from your credibility

It looks like this guy will be a chain mover with sneaky speed (at least faster than Jo-Jo). His ability to transition from a lacrosse star to a one year starter at Monmouth to a starter in the NFL speaks to his intelligence and athletic ability. I'm cautiously optimistic that he will fill LaFell's role and give us something close to 2014 Jo-Jo.

Edit: he wasn't even a starter at Monmouth--played only 13% of offensive snaps, although he also played defense and was backup punter and kicker.

he is versatile, thats bb's guy

Does he come with a chip on his shoulder? That seems to be BB's favorite feature of a wide receiver.

Yeah I think they really want a guy to replace Lafell, that exactly role, that kind of role he played in 2014 was essential to move the chains and win some tough games, but there was something off in Lafell's 2015, not only the injury, I though there was something in his body language that was giving me a impression of a bad attitude, maybe he wanted more money after 2014, I don't know, maybe a sum of all that, injury, drop in performance, attitude, and then who's better in detect this early signs than Belichick? It was no surprise for me the cut. Lafell looked done in NE way before the season ends.

Hogan is a good player and very physical, he can definitely succeed in our system, the money seems a little steep indeed but I'll let that with the specialists, there are rumors that BB knows every player in a NFL roster and has a value assigned for each one of them and we know he is not going to overpay a bit so he must be very confident in this signing.

That said, I still think there's a need to add at least another quality player, unfortunately I have this sense that Edelman may decline a little bit or become injury prone again.

Could have had 10 fcking TD for all I care. We still overpaid. Mark this post, and I'll see you at the end of the season.

Lol, I was just looking at that tweet. Bills fans are blasting him, calling him a "traitor", "Benedict Hogan", all kinds of ****.

LOL! I saw that one too...I think he said "Trader" though, haha.

That's the #BillsMafia for ya.

LOL I saw that too... Some Pats fans got on him fast... One of them quickly photoshopped that Bills fan's face onto an Adult Friend Finder ad... (Members here will see the irony of this.)

Those who are all over the second coming of Wes Welker...WR:Chris Hogan if the Dolpins and Jets made such an offer how would it be viewed by most here? Probably an indiotic desperate move am I right??? But if the Patriots do it...it's best thing since slice bread...the Patriots overpayed for a guy that they were bidding against themselves. Kinda like BB infamous Second Round Reaches he could have had well in the Fifth or Sixth Rounds...things that make you go Hmmmmm.

Early days of FA + non absolute-bottom-of-the-barrel players = "overpay", almost every single time

If you're going to worry about the money spent on most free agents, you might as well ask for your team to skip free agency entirely, especially during years where the cap shoots up.

4M a year for a WR with room to improve competing for a starting job is not outrageous. What about his career stats makes you think he's not a top 3 WR on this roster?
