Patriots Pre-Season Game For Mallett, Hoyer...Let The Games Begin
By: Steve Balestrieri

For Brian Hoyer, he's entering his fourth season as Brady's backup, but in four years he's only attempted 43 passes....

Unless Hoyer uncharacteristically unravels in his 4th pre season, the audition is already over for the #2 slot here in 2012. Hoyer is auditioning for an out of town audience and Mallett may be as well in addition to auditioning to see what Belichick decides he has to persue at the position in the draft and/or FA in 2013.

sounds more like a wish than anything else

Sounds pretty damn realistic after tonight.

Hoyer is the #2 unless he gets run over by a semi crossing route 1. Mallett hasn't progressed since last season. He may have a better grasp of the offensive playbook, but he's still the same boom or bust player he was last pre season when it comes to executing within it.

This is only the first preseason game but I agree with Mo, Mallett has no shot whatsoever at number 2.
