Patrick Chung on TE Travis Kelce...

Remember the reaction when we brought him back here?

It was like the whole fan base let out a collective Charlie Brown "Auuugh!"

Chung with the Kung fu grip on that tackle

Like most of us on this board, I was pleasantly surprised (ok, shocked :D) at how good Patrick's second time with NE has unfolded.

His athletic ability was always there (I remember, in his first stint with us,that one incredible game where I think he blocked a punt and returned it for a TD, blocked a Field Goal, and then got a pick-six on defense!

But after his return from the Eagles, he has been lights out at Strong Safety!

Plus, like Ninkovich, he's an IRON MAN. Never misses practice, plays hurt, and seems to be always available. Thrilled for him!

There was no way BB was going to let Kelce beat the team when the other options are so putrid.

Chung might not be the vocal leader on the team, but him impact (last 2 seasons) to the secondary is similar to what Ninkovich has done on the line. Just one of these guys who always shows up to play and does his job exceedingly well (Probowl level without the accolades).

He was our best defensive player yesterday. Outstanding game.

Chung was garbage as an S1/S2, but he's been very solid as, basically, an undersized coverage linebacker, where his weakness in coverage is minimized to a degree, and he gets more help behind him.

So he's basically Deone Bucannon from the Cardinals.

The Cardinals secondary, with Mathieu, is a pretty good comp to the Patriots version.

Patrick Chung is a borderline pro bowler. He was miscast, no fault of his own, his rookie year and early years, they put him 15 yards behind the line of scrimmage. He is an elite in-the-box strong safety.

Chung is a great tackler, great pursuit, can cover within 10 yards of scrimmage, and is another heart and soul of the defense.
