    ESPN Insider: KC Joyner:

    he has:
    Driver
    Chambers

    ^both overrated in his books
    honorable mention:
Randy Moss: He'll have to dramatically improve on his meager 6.2 YPA to keep the Patriots happy.

Wes Welker: He is being touted as a vastly underrated player, but his 7.2 YPA last year ranked 55th in the league.

also on the honorable list were Tory Holt and Greg Jennings

    underrated:
    Glenn
    Reggie Brown

honorables to: Clayton, Bryant Johnson, Holmes and Hackett

Its a damn shame Glenn didn't smarten up sooner. Brady to Glenn would have been fun to watch.

but his 7.2 YPA last year ranked 55th in the league.

True, but I see his 67 rec. and 687 rec. yards as more important.

so Vilma's 113 tackles was very important while he struggled in a 3-4?

    3rd and 6
    Defense blitzing
5 yard slant, quick separation, hot read
    Secure pass
    Get 2 yards
    Fall down
    Don't fumble
    Drive continues

I wonder what the average for slot receivers is, though. Clearly wideouts are going to have longer receptions than slot guys.

    #95 Jersey

im assuming ypa is yards per attempt
thing is,this also has a lot to do with who's throwing you the ball
if throws are uncatchable its gonna hurt this stat
obv worse qbs throw more uncatchable balls

as for greg jennings being overrated:
first off dont talk crap about one of my fave non-patriot players
second off, how is he overrated
who talks about him outside green bay other than me and maybe brandon funston or one of those fantasy guys
the case could have been made at the beg of the yr that jennings was the better rookie wr than colston
he was putting up great numbers, then he had an ankle sprain and wasn't the same after that
in an interview he said he would go back and watch his film, and he felt like he was watchin someone else, he was very depressed by it all, cuz his injury just wouldnt let him do what he knew he was capable of

a very good rookie wr, who still does good even though he has a nagging injury, and isnt ever talked about on the national stage=overrated???
what the hell is he talking about

He also lists in as honorable mention in the overrated section:

If Moss and Welker can be overrated like Holt then we are all set.

Chris Chambers has to be the most overrated player in the last few years. In 2005, he had one spectacular games and a couple of very good games mixed into a mediocre season and everyone were calling him a break out player. He is wildly inconsistent and drops too many balls.

As for an underrated WR, I though Mike Furrey had a very understated 1,000 yard season. I also don't think Lee Evans really gets the recognition he deserves.

why u trying to act like a bad ass to me? Its not my list.

KC Joyner. Football scientist who goes by metrics..hes got the indepth stats.
someone asked how Welker matches up against other slot WRs: heres a few mentions:
    Bryant Johnson: 10.5 YPA.
Holmes was in the slot a lot: His 10.5 short pass YPA was not only the best in the league, but ranked 2.5 yards higher than the second-best receiver in that category.
Hacket: Hackett ranked 10th in overall YPA (9.7), and first in medium pass YPA (15.1) and success percentage (84.6).

I'm not sure how Welker can be overrated considering that, if he wasn't traded to NE it would probably still be just me and a few diehard Mia and NE fans that even recognized his name.

When a large percentage of the team's own fanbase still feel that NE was ripped off on the trade, I would say that the guy is underrated if anything.

I think his actual YPA was 10.3

I like his 687 yrds because they are impressive for a receiver with his limited athletic ability. Besides, do we really need to make him go deep? I'll let Stallworth/Moss do that. And seeing how he had a revolving door of some of the league's worst quarterbacks, it makes him look even better. And I'll take a 7 yard gain on offense anyday if it sustains the drive, something that a slot receiver is asked to do.

Come to think of it, I like his 13yrd 2 QTR avg and his 11yrd 4 QTR avg too.

Vilma is a little undersized for the 3-4, but the Jet's D-line struggled as well. The line makes the linebackers.

Good point....surprised no one has brought that up before.

It would have been nice to see both Glenn and Branch stay with the team (like Harrison and Wayne with Manning) I am willing to bet there would be another Lombardi down at Gillette.

Okay...But even if his avg is 7.5yrds or w/e, like I said before, I'll take that anyday as long as it sustains the drive if needed.

Many receivers can get first downs, but how many can do it consistently? I mean, Sam Aiken can catch some first downs, but how consistently? Welker only dropped like 1pass in minicamp. Surely, You know that his job is not to be a 80+ reception, 1000 yard receiver? He's very dependable, and he fills a need. I'll take that. As long as he's another weapon for the defense to disregard/cover, I'm fine with that.
