Heartbroken to learn this news. Nick was a terrific person and someone I used to talk to quite a bit when he was still on the Patriots beat. He was a huge help back in the early days and one of the most supportive people when it came to this site after I had put it together and it was getting started.

He actually wrote about the site in the Globe one time, which was obviously a big deal and one of the quotes was one I kept:View attachment 22625

Needless to say, definitely shocked and saddened with this one. He was just genuinely a really, really nice guy and everyone liked him. Just awful - thoughts go out to his family, friends and colleagues. We certainly lost a good one :(

Ha! That must have been the story that brought me over here. He came across as a good person in his writing -- it's nice (but even sadder) to hear that was borne out in person. My sympathies to you too, Ian.

Such sad news, 62 is way too young and my heart goes out to his family and friends. Very unsurprising to me as well to read Ian’s tribute. While I can’t say I was a huge fan of Nick’s, he absolutely came across as a regular guy and fundamentally nice man. Unfortunately in this town in that realm, that made him an exception. May his memory be a blessing z”l

One of the nice guys in the business, 62 is too early and sudden. T & P to his family.

Age 62 is too young. But if it's your time to go, an embolism is pretty quick without suffering.

In a profession full of shameless self-promoting jerks, Cafardo stood out to me as a consummate professional. I consider him a great example of what sports journalism should be like all the time.

62!
Cherish every day, my friends. I'm going to give my kids an extra hug at bedtime tonight.

RIP. My condolences to his family and friends.

This unexpected event is why I selfishly would like to see BB & TFB enter the HOF ASAP post career ending. You never know.

Whenever I suddenly lose a friend or see a case like Nick Cafardo's, I think of the late Dr Leo Buscaglia. Here's one of his best videos and it's only 2 minutes...

I remember, when he was on the Patriots beat in the early 2000's, he used to be a regular Sunday night guest on one of the local tv shows (I'm not sure if it was WBZ or what). They used to have a Moderator (Lobel? Burton?) and Nick Cafardo on one side and a young Michael Felger on the other.

Even then, a more dire contrast in etiquette and human decency could not be illustrated.
