They always seem to blow there High pick every year. What's the word on what they are doing? The Fish got a solid OL last year.
Not a fan of them; just wondering.
    thanks

They'll probably take Matthew Stafford. And, he'll become Joey Harrington
Part Deux. I would take Jason Smith at 1. Trade 20+ pick next year for
Cassel. Then go defense, defense, defense rest of the draft. But, what the
    hell do I know.

Given their new coaching staff, I'm thinking lineman at #1. Either Jason Smith or Eugene Monroe. Then they look at a QB with #20, either a guy like Freeman or via trade.

Matt Millen shed a single tear over this comment.

Well done, good sir. I laughed out loud.

Jim Schwartz is a smart guy. He'll go with the best OL or DL available. I wouldn't be shocked if they took two linemen in the first round with their picks.

Re: OT - Lions at #1 take ?

If and only IF, the Lions feel like they can't sign, Crabtree / Heyward-Bey or Maclin #1 overall, will they even think of looking at Stafford. :) Where's Matt Millen when you need him...........

Stafford is the pick and they'll grab their OT at 20 (hoping either Oher falls or hoping Andre Smith continues to visit BK prior to the draft and somehow finds himself available at 20 or grabbing the BDPA - perhaps the little animal if he's there).
I think Matt Cassel is the furthest thing from Jim Schwartz's mind. The more and more I think about, I think KC is where Matt will end up.

I think there's an outside chance that they go with Raji too, if they fall in love with him and he has a good combine. That Shaun Rogers trade isn't looking too good for Detroit, and they could use a man-mountain on the interior of their defensive line in a bad way. With a couple huge tackles in there, it would free up guys like Sims to make more plays, and maybe, y'know, win a game or two.

Jason Smith is the man. At least that's who they SHOULD pick. But knowing the Lions they reach for a QB at #1 or a WR.

I don't think we'll see the same old stupid Lions. They've played their cards close to their chest. I think they'll draft OL. I think they'll make a play for Cassell that includes the Dallas pick.

They've seen the Left Tackles and (soon) the QB's at the combine and it will cement their decision. Calvin Johnson, Kevin Smith, Jason Smith and Matt Cassell could form the foundation of a great offense.

Thats too bad. I wouldn't mind if the Pat traded Cassel to DET and merely swapped positions in all 7 rounds of the draft. I'm sure the Pats could turn those high round picks into additional picks in future drafts.

With the first overall pick in the 2009 NFL draft the Detroit Lions select Michael Crabtree.

The Lions SHOULD take Jason Smith. In each of the last 3 years teams that took offensive linemen have enjoyed phenomenal success.

It goes beyond the last 3 years. I've seen some people say it's risky to take an OT high, citing Robert Gallery and D'Brickashaw Ferguson and Mike Williams, but it's one of the safest positions to draft high. Look at the last 10 years or so. Jonathan Ogden, Walter Jones, Orlando Pace, Willie Anderson, John Tait, Joe Thomas, Leonard Davis, Bryant McKinnie, Levi Jones, Jake Long, Chris Samuels, Jordan Gross, Levis Brown and Ryan Clady were all top 12 picks, and most were taken in the top 6. Most of those guys are elite players who've been to or will go to the Pro-Bowl, and the ones that aren't are still very solid players. Compare that to the handful of busts, and it's like a 5:1 ratio of good/great players to busts. That's about as safe as it gets. Most of the guys who end up being busts are the guys taken in the mid to late portions of the first that a team reached for. At the top, though, not much is safer than a stud offensive tackle.

    #12 Jersey

The only reason I might doubt they take an OT is that they just drafted one a year ago.

What about Aaron Curry? I know LB in the top 3 is unheard of, but some like Mike Mayock have him rated as THE best prospect overall.

While Gallery looks like a bust, hes a pretty good Guard. So, you got end of the first round value at the top of the first round. Bad pick, but not an outright bust. Ferguson is a decent-to-good Left Tackle, and despite the fact that hes not elite, hes definitely worth the pick.

Yes they SHOULD, but they are the LIONS, so with the first selection of the 2009 nfl draft the detroit lions take QB from Georgia Matthew Stafford.
