O.T.: Dolphins Trade Vontae Davis To Colts

It's a pretty good deal for both teams. Colts get a CB that has demonstrated he can play like a #1 that's only 24. That's something that you'd hope to find with a 2nd round pick and it fills a position of need. The Dolphins jettison a player that didn't fit the team's current plans and they likely felt was under performing and get a 2nd round pick to rebuild with. Sounds like a win/win to me. Irsay did make it sound like they were getting the cast off spirit of Tim Tebow in the body of Deion Sanders. He needs to "please be ****ing quiet".

I figured that was who he was going after when he said in his tweet that he was Very Determined to get a high profile players and Wasn't Worried about the cost.

Irsay needs to ask Woody Johnson how making high profile moves is working out for him.

The Colts may have "Lucked" (see what I did there?) into a franchise QB, but your aren't going to "Luck" into a championship franchise without making sound football moves.

I like the signing of Chuck Pagano, and the GM they hired, but a bad owner is an obstacle that no team can overcome.

It sounds like two rebuilding teams found common ground because one is essentially resigned to what it entails while the other is still hoping to end around it due to QB play. If the latter guessed wrong they will get the short end of the stick next April when Miami is drafting in the top 5 of the second round twice. And maybe by then Ireland isn't doing the grocery shopping. If Irsay is intent on remaining relevant through his rebuild via trading away draft picks and opening up his check book in FA he could be setting the stage for Luck to learn the hard way. They got lots of holes to fill and having first dibs on the 1200 camp cuts should have sufficed in the short term. They really should have moved Freeney before his value declines further, too. Now they'll have to tag him next season in excess of $23M in hopes of netting anything beyond wasting $15M in future cap space on him this season.

Poll of the day: How much do you think Peyton Manning secretly hates Jim Irsay?

To further prove that point;

Irsay gets defensive in response to Twitter criticism | ProFootballTalk

“If u don’t like it buy ur own team and try to make the playoffs 9 seasons n a row n put together 7 straight 12 win seasons n a row as Owner!”

And then he declared victory, and he presumably has retreated: “U can do all your judgmental chirpin’ U want,it’s not about subjective opinions…it what you DO n what your track record shows! CHECKMATE!“

Spoken like the rich guys idiot entitled child that he is.
Why is Irsay telling someone to buy an NFL team given he inherited the Colts through the poor health of his father... who bought the Colts?

Latent insecurity because on some level he knows who he is... That's what led to all his drug and alcohol issues.

Ireland just zinged him in his own defense against Doofins fans who think he's throwing in the towel on the season. Says you seldom get a 2nd in trade this late for a player you demoted... Of course then he said he's in the market for upgrades and has some ammunition he can still use, too. Insecurity and ego are the bane of most NFL FO's.

Observing the behavior of sporting team owners really is interesting.

OT: Vontae Davis traded to Colts

Didn't see a thread on this and thought it was semi relevant considering it has to do with a team in our division. I apologize if it's already been talked about and mods please merge if there's already a thread discussing it...

The phins traded their best cb, Vontae Davis to the Colts for two draft picks, a 2nd and 6th th 2013. Apparently Davis was relegated to nickle db in their new defensive system.

You must not have looked very hard:

Amazing Brandon Marshall was traded for 2 3rd round picks and Davis was for a 2nd even though Marshall is a much better player than Davis. Goes to show you how much goes into trades outside of straight player ability.
