Significant changes from last week. These are guys I want who are hopefully reasonable value.

1a - Anthony Castonzo. Prefer Julio Jones, Watt or Jordan but expect them gone barring a trade up.

1b - Danny Watkins. Others on my list : Pouncey, Wilkerson, Heyward

2a - Akeem Ayers. Others on my list : Solder, Ingram, Reed, Leshoure, Rudolph, Houston, Aaron Williams

2b - Ryan Williams. Others on my list : Ellis, Taylor, Sheard, Bailey

3a - Jarvis Jenkins. Others on my list : Little, Hankerson, Curtis Brown, Daniel Thomas

3b - Clint Boling. Others on my list : Marcus Gilchrist, Shane Vereen.

I wanted Bailey over Jenkins for a little more explosive athlete but I think I'd have to take him at 2b and I like Williams there.

I replace Light at OT, Neal at OG, get another Guard to likely replace Mankins in a year, get a DE and pass rushing OLB plus the RB I want. Many here will prefer Reed to Ayers, whatever, pick your OLB.

This will change again by next week. The draft is an art, not a science, for me and my desires are constantly changing.

1a - I'm not very high on Castonzo, so I definitely don't think he hold much value at 17. I'd rather take Wilkerson straight up with 1a, preferably with a small tradedown, than Castonozo there.

1b - I don't have as much of a problem with Watkins, although I'm not sure the value is here either. If Sherrod was still on the board I'd take him.

2a - I would rather have Houston than Ayers. Ayers is versatile but I think Houston is the kind of player we need over the kind of player Ayers is.

2b - I wouldn't oppose if they take a RB here, but i rather they try to take the best WR that fits instead, maybe Hankerson here.

3a - Also a good candidate for picking a RB, and I think this is the best pick to do it. Thomas seems like a definite possibility.

3b - Boling looks like a solid pick here, can't complain.

Daniel Thomas 545(rush att) 52(rec) 597(Touches) 11(fumbles) 1.84(percent)

Ryan Williams 403 26 429 5 1.17

Hardly seem like Patriot style backs based on ball control (these are career #'s).

If Williams is a fumbler then I don't want him. However he only had 1 in 120 touches last year so I'm not ready to indict him yet. I don't think we would just cross them off the list, fumbling can be fixed as evidenced by K. Faulk and T. Barber. If there's something about them that makes us think they'll always be fumblers then move on. But "it is what it is" doesn't always apply to potential draftees, they can make changes which end things like being a fumbler.

You can't really argue with those picks, except for Ayers. I just wouldn't go in that direction.

But I'm still not settled on who I would take. It varies from day to day, totally unlike me at this stage. Watt or Jordon are my 2 at #17, if they are still on the board.

I'm still in the mind set to get Miller if he slides down to #6. Big price for one play but a play maker like him make not be doable for the Patriots for several years, if they don't pull the trigger this year.

If you replace Ayers with Sheard, then this would be a fantastic draft. Sheard is much better against the run and has that explosion that we desperately need from a pass rush.

I love the nastiness that Watkins brings to an O line.

Swap Ayers/Williams for Reed/Hankerson and im all in, would love it if we came away with that

Am I the only person who doesn't like Ayers, Sheard, OR Reed?

Well, I like Sheard and Reed, but not until pick #45 or so.

I will add that I don't do trades but would happily trade the Ayers pick for a #1 next year plus something else this year with the something else being fairly good depending on where the #1 next year is likely to be. I have zero feel for which OLB is best but while I don't want to force the position I don't want Cunningham, Ninkovich and TBC to be all we have heading into 2011.

I could be very happy with this draft and would be happier with just two changes

1b - Danny Watkins – too old for day 1 pick. Give any of your “Others”: Pouncey, Wilkerson, or Cam Heyward :singing:

2a - Akeem Ayers – very concerned with lack of speed. Give any one of your “Others”: Nate Solder, or Aaron Williams :)

I am ok with Reed. He has hustle and works hard. No plays off. Sheard was second banana to Romeus before he got hurt. I have no idea why anyone on this forum would want Ayers. No pass rush whatsoever. Might as well plug in TBC.
I throw Houston into the waste barrel too. Takes plays off and disappears for stretches. Never makes the big play......great!!!!.

Greg Romeus was a top first round pick prior to the start of the season then disc surgery now recovered, he lost his mother then in mid season the ACL. He could be our additional first round pick for 2012 if we Draft him later on and red shirt him. Plus he gets a year learning the system. A cheap money steal. We do not have room for all six top picks.

I'm with OTG on Reed. He'd be a nice pick, as a pass rush specialist. He's going to be a liability against the run, meaning he's not a 3-down player, which in my mind means he's not worth a top 60 pick.

Picking Romeus works. But who's playing at OLB next year?

Am I the only person who doesn't like Ayers, Sheard, OR Reed?

Nope. I'm with you on all 3. Sheard is borderline for me though.

Another player I'm definitely not as high on as the rest of the mock draft world is Amukamara (slightly off topic). Watching him on tape doesn't show a special player, and there are a couple articles out there showing his coverage deficiencies that back up the tape.

I concur. DH, did I miss you Vertical Sort this year?

No. I'm so far behind on my grading I'm not sure I'll get it done. I've just been slammed at work, since budget cuts mean same amount of work with fewer staff, and a travel-heavy schedule. I'll try, but it's looking less than 50/50 for it to happen.

That's a very tough one.

I have recently ~ and with great reluctance ~ disembarked from the Aldon Smith train. I still believe in him, but I have become persuaded that the combination of Conversion Risk, Draft Capital Expenditure, and Opportunity Cost ~ at other positions ~ points away from making that particular move.

And he was the very last Flanker who I could justify expending so much Draft Capital on.

To answer your question: I like Rob Ninkovich a great deal, and buy into Brother Maine's suggestion that he is poised for a big step forward, this year. He is a Scrapper, and I believe that he is going to become an excellent Run Defender, to the great surprise of many.

Going into Year 2 on the job as they are, I'm expecting BIG improvements from both Rob Ninkovich and Jermaine Cunningham.

And I think that big improvements from the players next to and in front of them ~ Brandon Spikes, Ty Warren, Marcus Stroud, and Fresh Grizzlies!! ~ will also have a direct impact on their effectiveness.

What think ye?

I think you're right. If we beef up our Grizzlies up front the linebackers will, by default, become more effective. That, and we should sign Kiwi, damn lack of Free Agency:mad:
