MSN Front Page: Roger Goodell blatantly lied to make Tom Brady look dishonest

Roger will probably get a TV deal after he gets canned. Could be Michael Scott in a parallel universe office.

Michael Scott is a more competent boss.

Be prepared for a lot of leaks by the NFL prior to next Wednesday, Roger will not tolerate being denigrated..

Mort and Steven A keep your cell phones on..
i think you meant to say be prepared for a lot of LIES by the nfl prior to next wed. But even if they Could leak more lies i don't think they would because it must have become apparent to them by now that every time they do they get caught in the lie.

He asked Brady if he ever walked the stadium on a Saturday. Brady said “Yes.”

Goodell: “You did?”

Brady: “Yes.”

Goodell: “Yes?”

Brady: “Yes.”

Forty. Million. A. Year.

Q. Okay. Now, have you had a practice, and tell me when it began, how long ago, of destroying or, I guess, asking somebody to destroy or get rid of your cell phones periodically?

A. I think for as long as I have had a cell phone.

Roger Goodell pipes up to get clarification:

COMMISSIONER GOODELL: Just, Jeff, can I ask a question? How often do you normally dispose of your phone? When you say “get rid of,” does it run out of time?
----------------------------------
Run out of time?? Are we back in the age of phone cards and limited minutes????

The judge put them in a bind, The main stream media are attacking them and they can't respond without pi**ing off the judge. Look for the criticism to snowball. Goodell has to be feeling the pressure...

Random, disconnected and perhaps not even internally consistent thoughts.

The NFL has proved itself stupid so many times that they must might do something like that, but I think even the League is smart enough to know that Judge Berman would not look kindly on any leaks from either side now that the matter is before Magistrate Judge Francis.

Judge Berman is now an "Audience of One" for both sides. All the stuff that's come out in the last 24 hours is just noise...for once, it's "good" noise for our side, but, it's still all just background noise.

The only relevant question is whether any of this noise increases the League's sense of urgency to settle in a way that would be acceptable to Brady (exoneration on the underlying fraud and no suspension).

My guess is that if that the two sides haven't settled by the 12th and can't settle during the meeting on the 12th that Berman will telegraph how he's leaning at that meeting. In fact, he may also have telegraphed it through Judge Francis. I would venture a guess that Berman and Francis have been working together for a long time. So, it's possible the whole thing will be resolved before the 12th.

I think the NFL is now in "Bunker Mode" and realizes that things are getting out of its control. Judge Berman was NOT who Wells wanted to get when he came up with what he no doubt thought was the brilliant idea of filing in New York a nanosecond after the Appeal Ruling was released (filed so fast that the idiot attorney filing the papers forgot to sign them).

Who says it has to have anything to do with deflategate? If this Goodell hateball gets rolling like we hope, we might see a whole new 'event' manufactured by the NFL. The Hail Mary misdirection audible from Goodell if you will... 'Quick hit Tuesday afternoon leak, far and wide, right, to ESPN, 2-3-Classic. BREAK!'

Even when reports like this are (hopefully) turning the tide of popular opinion and showing up the NFL for the shysters they clearly are, there's still the pervasive sentiment of "we don't know how much Brady did wrong"?
Why, after all this time and with recognition that the Patriots have handled themselves with distinction throughout this debacle while the NFL have done little else but lie and cheat, does the media not make the simple observation - that there is no evidence that ANYONE DEFLATED ANYTHING (other than Mother Nature).

There's still that undercurrent suggesting that the Pats might have cheated - WHY??? As damning as this all looks for Goodell and co, this is still grinding my gears...

Unbelievable, isn't it?

If true Fox will be going with some variation of BRADY IS HITLER to lead off their next newscast,

If true Fox will be going with some variation of BRADY IS HITLER to lead off their next newscast,

No, the headline will be "Brady, as bad as Hitler?" with the subheader saying "Some experts say..."

From Bountygate to Ray Rice to Adrian Peterson to this fiasco, goodell has f'ed up (or in this case, created) every major challenge he's faced.

If I'm an owner, and I'm paying this clown a salary of over $40 million, I think I'm pretty unhappy with his performance

If/when this whole debacle gets reversed in court, I will be flabbergasted if it isn't the final nail in goodell's commissioner coffin

Great headline

Sadly I don't think you'll ever have people/reporters say definitively nothing happened - though I really do think you can look at the evidence and say that the PSI deflation is insignificant and if anything happened it's a HUGE leap to assert Brady ordered it

But there's probably always going to be that hanging over his head - unfairly - but it will be there

But Goodell's attempt to mislead and slander is a fire-able offense - and if the Owners start feeling pressure on them, rather than Goodell and there's real questions - as there should be - about the integrity of the game emanating from 345 Park Avenue, I can see a change being made - hopeful thinking I know but this is the NFL's Watergate and it's going to get worse for them - not better

I got the best laugh from Curran though

I realize this will be an unpopular position, however, to me this was never about Brady "absolutely did nothing wrong". There are a couple of things in there regarding Brady and the equipment guys that sound suspicious (though nothing conclusive whatsoever). So when you say media won't outright say Brady did absolutely nothing wrong it has a modicum of foundation to believe 'tom' foolery maybe was going on with the football.

IMHO, whether Brady may have asked an equipment guy to keep the ball at his desired PSI anyway he can is no longer the point. What is the point now is this act by Brady was not proven, PERIOD. (A) you do NOT convict and utterly trash an NFL icon like Brady, someone who has been incredible for the NFL brand, based on a suspicious text that says "deflator" "going to ESPN", not giving up your personal cell phone and a an obviously weak science report. When a huge corporation can say FU to due process and even a modicum of acting fairly to trash someone, this is a FAR bigger thing than a stupid 1/2 pound of PSI in a stupid football. (B) Goodell and his lops, factually, acted appallingly to twist/contrive to eke out a 'just barely more probable than not' case against Brady and the Patriots. (C) even if Brady had asked the equipment guy to do whatever he had to do to make the ball a miniscule softer/half pound of PSI lower than regulation (a regulation that was treated with low regard), the proportionality of the reaction was ridiculous. (D) there is no doubt the NFL has acted much worse than what Brady was accused of acting. An extremely powerful corporation used its vast money-power-media control to lie/con and bully people into trashing someone, doing it without even a close to acceptable level of due process (Yea sure, what the NFL has done to spread lies and hurt people is nothing compared to sneaking a 1/2 pound of PSI out of a football). (E) To levy a mega fine, take a first and fourth round pick, take away your star QB for 25% of the season CLEARLY shows the NFL is trying to balance success in the NFL/clearly shows the NFL prefers the Patriots win less. This is an attempt to handicap the Patriots' chances of success over a multi season span.

So when you see a headline that says "Goodell Blatantly Lied" but within the article they don't completely exonerate Brady, there is nothing wrong with that article whatsoever. The proportionality of a 'Goodell lied' headline and a few sentences within the story that there is some suspicion about the football PSI is perfectly proportional and, IMHO, puts the story where it needs to be: How the leader of a mega corporation acted appallingly to get one of their employees and cajole more optimal outcome of upcoming seasons.

Omissioner Goodell, a false witness will not go unpunished. Your time will come.

The Entire World: "Awww, STFU Joker...Roger Goodell is the greatest commissioner in NFL history and above reproach!"

"GOODELL MUST GO!!!"

:D

Everytime Goodell speaks he sounds lost. He'll chime in to say something completely pointless. You can feel the uncomfortable silence when he talks. Like everyone is looking around like, "Who let this idiot in here?" I keep picturing Brick Tamerlin saying "I love lamp."
