Re: Morning Huddle 9/24: Will This Be Gronk's Week? Belichick Embarrasses Salk and Ho
I agree that he wouldn't answer it directly -- "I tell them x." And your'e right that most coaches wouldn't. But they certainly do answer stuff like this indirectly all the time. In fact, I think BB did answer it indirectly a bit, by bringing up the 2004 Dolphins game. For all the criticism of Holley, this is actually an insightful snippet that he drew out of BB -- even by asking poorly conceived questions.
I can imagine BB telling the team, "let me tell you about what happened in 2004." I think it's not a coincidence that BB pulled this nugget out during the interview -- it was nearly a decade ago and still resonates with him obviously, and I'm sure he's used it with the players at times. Maybe I'm being silly here, but I love the Patriots and thinking about this stuff, and even if a reporter has uncomfortable moments asking questions that seem stupid, it enhances my enjoyment of football.
BB is very much a "what happens in the locker room stays in the locker room" kind of guy. He would never, ever, ever, ever answer a question like that honestly. I really can't think of any coach who would.
