Measuring "Movement"

Similar to Talib in not only athleticism, but he also has off the field issues too. He fits the profile of a low cost Belichick reclamation project, but I don't know if Kraft is willing to sign off in this post-Hernandez era.

A guy who was considered a "reach" 2 years ago by some was Bruce Irvin, taken #15 overall by the Seahawks. His mobility score was unreal: 4.41 40 + 1.55 10-split + 4.03 SS + 6.7 3C = 16.69. That's elite for a CB or WR, and compares reasonably favorably with Devin McCourty (16.68). Of course, Irvin was 6'3" 245#.

BTW, some other Patriots' defenders:

- Chris Jones. Explosion score: 31 BP + 30 VJ + 8 BJ = 69 (borderline elite). Movement score: 5.1 40 + 1.87 10-split + 4.44 SS + 7.34 3C = 18.75. Good, but not great.

- Rob Ninkovich. Explosion score: 23 BP + 34 VJ (outstanding) + 9 VJ = 66 (very good). Movement score: 4.80 40 + 1.66 10-split + 4.18 SS + 6.96 3C = 17.6 (very good). Ninkovich is an above-average athlete at his position, which, combined with his intelligence and field-generalship, makes for a very good player.
You should post this on the main board before they post the next "when are we gonna upgrade Rob Ninkovich" thread. It will save a lot of band width so we can have more Danny Amendol threads.

Again, Bruce Irvin's 2012 4.03 short shuttle and 6.70 3-cone at 6'3" 245# stands out as really extraordinary. The closest thing so far is Montana's Jordan Tripp, who put up 3.96 and 6.89 times in those respective events at 6' 2 3/4" 234#.

Bruce Irvin moves real well. Too bad he's not good at football.
