Number one pics are suppose to contribute and have an immediate positive impact. So instead of calling Maroney a BUST...... b/c he does not deserve to be in the category of jamarcus russel.

Maroney is in fact a "disappointment" pick when measured up against past ones of 2001-Present.

2001 6 Richard Seymour DT Georgia
    2002 21 Daniel Graham TE Colorado [29]
    2003 13 Ty Warren DT Texas A&M [30]
2004 21 Vince Wilfork DT Miami (FL) [31]
    32 Benjamin Watson TE Georgia
2005 32 Logan Mankins OG Fresno State
2006 21 Laurence Maroney RB Minnesota
    2007 24 Brandon Meriweather S Miami (FL) [32]
    2008 10 Jerod Mayo LB Tennessee [33]

BUST was totally out of line on my part earlier............ but the guy has been a huge hang your head low kind of pick.

maybe if we ran the ball while up 21-0 on a team that cant stop the run, the guy would produce

unfortunately, the playcaller thinks shotgun is better at that point

if i were calling the plays, i gaurantee u that he would be neither, and at the very least a SOLID pick

look how well we have hit on FIRST ROUNDERS.

Watson/Merriwheather are coming around........ Everybody except Maroney is a standout/impact player.

Watson is healthy for a change and we can finally see him at work.

Can we add a new section? The "All Maroney posts go here" section.

You guys do realize that Maroney plays on a pass first team that also does not run a "feature back". It's been RB by committee since he was drafted.

Here's my question.. if you ranked RB's in the AFC, how would you list them?

I agree, Watson is FINALLY paying off it seems.

We need a runningback inbetween BJGE and Maroney

BJGE: I am a runningback robot. I run north and only north.

    Maroney: Too much hesitation

    gulp

Marshawn Lynch, Ronnie Brown, Leon Washington, Joseph Addai, Maurice Jones Drew, Chris Johnson, Steve Slaton, Cedric Benson, Willie Parker, Ray Rice, LT,

That leaves The cleveland runningback, Darren Mcfadden, Buckhalter/Moreno and Larry Johnson worse then Maroney.:D

Give me another Dillion next year and our RB woes will be over. We have the picks to go after one. Somewhere out there is that guy.
I'm not asking for Jim Brown just a runner like Dillion.

Well, for what it's worth, if Parker keeps getting beat out for playing time by Mendenhall once he's healthy, he could demand a trade this offseason.

People seem to forget that Watson has something like 50 catches in 2006. He is ANOTHER example of players who are the victim of the media and fan over expectations. Over the years Watson has become a better than average blocker, and a good/not great receiver who plays in an offense that generally makes the TE the 3rd choice. He'll never make the pro bowl, but he's been a very productive player for the Pats.

I imagine that if he'd been picked 33rd instead of 32nd, people would have thought better of him, since he'd now be "only" a 2nd rounder. Watson is a "disappointment" just like David Graham was...TO US (media and fans), yet when he became a free agent, the people who REALLY know valued him enough to pay him more that the Pats could afford.

Yes I agree that if you are drafting in the top 10 you might be expecting a "special" player, but when you are drafting in 20's and 30's (like with Moroney and Watson) if you get a guy who can contribute immediately and be a starter for most of their rookie contract, THEN you have done a good job. Both Moroney and Watson have DONE just that.

It IS fair to state that NEITHER have become a top 5 player at their position, but BOTH have given fair value to the spot where they were picked. JMHO

Eh, he is injury prone. I'd offer a third and a fifth (if we have one). But since you didn't ask how much I would offer, I would say the Steelers would be seeking somewhere around a second rounder for him should this scenario actually happen. Would they get it? Debateable. Another intriguing possibility would be Chester Taylor.

And, for the record, I'm pro-Maroney and think the he has done a solid job considering what he's been given this season. I'm just throwing out possible scenarios that could happen in the offseason that the team may want to consider if they happen due to age in Sammy Morris, Fred Taylor, and Kevin Faulk.

A 3rd and BJGE could get it done.

Well ... I'm going to chime in with what I keep saying all along regarding Maroney. Watch his college video, his video when he came here and of course the video now.

Maroney has had to learn how to run differently due to injuries. So, I would not label him bust or disappointment. I would just rate him as he is much better suited to be a #2 back on a good team.

IMO ... his greatest gift as a runner was how he would swivel his hips to change direction. He was a lethal change of direction runner, against the grain ... all the rest. Now he changes direction by shifting his weight and juking with his feet. In essence he has become a north and south runner without the ability to move the pile.

Any members here who are good at studying video ... check it out. From what I see that is it. He has also lost a 1/2 tick in explosiveness. That ribcage injury I think was the worst injury ... more than the shoulder.

My 2-cents ... I'm no expert ... but to my eyes, this is what I see. I pick on him at times also, but I think the reality of the situation is that his body has changed and he's doing the best he can. Changing direction without the ability to swivel the hips takes an extra fraction of a second - an eternity in the NFL.

why do u think he doesnt "swivel the hips" any longer? the ribcage injury puts a limitation on it?...and i would also like to see some video of this, b/c its the most detailed thing i have heard regarding maroney in a LONG time

I'm no expert ... like I said ... but I've watched a buch of YouTubes and he runs different now. I know some members here have better ways of watching video ... so I post the hypothesis.
