Of all the stories i've read it seems that Maroney has been a very healthy player in his career. Then I just read this from Scout.com

"It was a bit of a surprise when the team selected oft-injured back Laurence Maroney over DeAngelo Williams in round one. While Maroney is a talented ball carrier, the inability to stay healthy and the fact he’s never truly carried the load in college is worrisome."

Does anyone know what kind of problems Maroney had and if so how many games he missed due to injury?

I found this at ESPN.com (draft section)

Injuries are part of the game. All of Patriot nation should know this by now. Our Patriots have been one of the most banged up teams in the league over the last few years. I'll say this. Rushing for an average of 133.1 yards a game while nursing a nagging ankle injury, ain't to shabby, IMO.

Scout.com obviously is confusing him with Larange Baloney of Univ.of Minn. at Austin. Happens all the time!:D

Maroney missed 1 full game and portions of 2 others with a bad ankle. But look at what else he did - he had a game last year where he had 51 touches (46 carries + 5 receptions) for 276 yards. He also went consecutive weeks vs. Michigan and Wisc where he totaled 79 carries for 387 yards. 2 weeks later he had 28 touches for 146 yards vs. Ohio St.

Over the first 8 weeks of the season he had 233 carries and 14 receptions. That's an average of 31 touches/game. I'd say he can carry the load.

I think the fact that he's always shared the load makes these people think that it was due to injury - when, in fact, it was just how the coach chose to run his offense. It's a point in favor of Maroney to me - RB take a beating and only have a certain number of carries in their productive life; I'm glad that Maroney didn't use too many of them up in college.
