was how well the defense played. Yeah, it was just the Chiefs, but they looked a lot more solid controlling the line of scrimmage and tackling than in preseason. They had a few breakdowns, most notably the long completion at the end, but the rookies seemed to perform admirably and in general the defense looked good, I thought. Depending on how hurt Brady is, they might end up having to carry the team this year, so at least some encouraging signs are there.

I was unfortunately watching a very poor satellite feed of the game on regular TV, but I thought the only rookie I saw for significant time on the D was Mayo, did Wheatley or Wilhite see the field at all other than ST?

It was mostly Sanders and Hobbs out there with O'Neal the third man in, but Wheatley had a few snaps. Mayo was the only guy out there regularly.

The run defense was fantastic, the passing D was iffy. Against a better QB, like Favre, with better WR's, like Coles and Cotchery, the Pats could have been burned pretty badly. Inconsistent pass rush - what's new - combined with very soft (or just poor) CB coverage led to lots of guys being open, the Chiefs simply failed to convert. Bowe dropped at least four and Coyle missed several open players. Notice how well the Chiefs moved when a more self-assured guy like Huard came in. I'm concerned about this D stopping a good passing attack. if the Pats play the pass like they did today, the Jets could probably score 24-30 points.

i maybe in the minority but i think the defense was good at times but wasnt great. The repeated 3rd conversions and the chiefs ending up on our goaline with 3 WRs and damon huard was just frustrating and the lack of a pass rush sometimes seems eternal. they are a good defense with brady led offense. they arent like the balitmore d of few yrs ago where we can rely completely on them

The CB play was fine. It was the Safety play that was not so hot.

Harrison has lost many more than a few steps. KC consistently got yardage on quick WR screens as they ran away from Rodney. He diagnosed the plays, but even so, couldn't stop them. He had lots of tackles because they were picking on him, consistently. This is obviously his last season; if someone develops, he may sit the last portion of the season.

James Sanders has stone hands and is not intuitive. He was in a position to intercept an endzone pass that would have prevented a FG, and he gave up along pass in the last minute that should never have happened.

    Meriwether was just invisible.
