Junior Seau's family sues NFL for wrongful death

You have no idea that the Seau family didn't try to get him help.

There are currently 3000 lawsuits pending vs the NFL in which the plaintiffs have brain-related trauma and are disabled, etc. that were filed well before the Seau family decided to seek damages for his condition.

Actually it's 4000 and the league will move to have this one consolidated as it has all the others. And will argue as in those combined cases that the remedies to be persued fall under the CBA. The league is making strides in providing care for those who have suffered damage. Beyond that most of the filings are a money grab.

The problem Junior's relatives will have is the statute of limitations as more than two years passed between the time the league acknowledged the the relationship between CTE and concussions and this law suit being filed while in the suit the family claims signs of damage dating back to the 1990's. Players past and present will provide both the best and worst evidence for and against themselves where assumption of risk is concerned. Even knowing what we now do most players continue to play even after suffering multiple concussions.

And even CTE reasearchers are reluctant to make the direct connection between it and suicide. A lot more issues contribute to that end in the interim, many of which are amenable to therapeutic treatment. Junior refused to seek any or even acknowledge any existed. For his addictions, or his insomnia, or his mood disorder, etc. Junior was a warrior, but he'd have been a lot more effective one had he chosen to face his deamons head on. He opted not to. You can lead a horse to water but you can't make him drink.

That enforcer we keep calling for this team to replace - the one who grew up in this league under Junior's wing - suffers many of the same issues Junior encountered over the course of his career, but he made different decisions about how to cope with them in the aftermath. There is a small number relatively speaking of players from an earlier era who are morally if not legally entitled to better care in light of recent discoveries and the league is working towards providing that. The rest is a predictable money grab.

if they were really so concerned they should have done more.

Seems to me that you've never dealt with a person close to you that comitted suicide.

You could make a case for nearly anything in court when suing someone.

It's just wrong to direct the blame and anger towards the NFL in attempt to get money.

Of course from a medial standpoint, it's unfortunate that their heads & brains can be seriously affected from playing football...But in my opinion, ANY family suing the NFL for things related to head injuries, concussions, brain damage, etc... is silly.
