I don't, I'm hoping we are destoying teams and Garopollo or Mallet come in to mop up.And I hope these are the last snaps I have to watch JG or Mallett take, in a Patriots uniform, for the rest of this year.
As someone on Twitter noted, though:
Isn't it, well, highly unusual that the Patriots announced this, and are OK with Garoppolo talking about it, this far ahead of time?
Obviously, Belichick has his reasons. The question is, what those reasons are.

History says Garoppolo is the backup. It's either been the backup or Brady who started the 4th preseason game.
2013- Mallett started
2012- Mallett started
2011- Brady started
2010- Brady started
2009- Hoyer started and played the whole game
2008- Cassell started
2007- Cassell started
2006- Cassell started and played the whole game
2005- Flutie started.
2004- Davey started and played the whole game
2003- Brady started
2002- Brady started
2001- Brady started and played the whole game
early as tomorrow to give him a shot at hooking on with the Rams or somewhere else.
My feeling is that if we can't trade Mallett, they will keep him for one more year and either try to trade him again or let him walk and get a comp pick out of it.
Ian Rapoport @RapSheet
The #Patriots won’t deal Ryan Mallett until they feel comfortable in Jimmy Garoppolo as a backup. Thursday will tell a lot for them.
On PFT Live, @tomecurran says he thinks Patriots QB Ryan Mallett will be cut if he's not traded.

Have a fair degree of skepticism here, he might start, but will he be QB for the whole game???
I am not sure of that... if Mallett was "trade bait' wouldn't you want to showcase him??
Always viewed Garapollo as the first chance to find Brady's replacement... find it interesting that they did it on the first try.
Really doubt this will happen because Texans are #1 in waiver claims.

If we let him walk now, we get nothing out of it and there's a good chance he ends up in Houston.

With all due respect, I'd love to see this team playing so well that Garoppolo gets to play mop-up duty in every Q4.
If BB runs up the score, he'll keep Brady in to do it, I believe. And if I'm not watching either of the other two, it means Brady stayed healthy doing it.Why? Dont you want us to be winning at least a few games by such an outrageous amount that we twist the knife in our opponent by playing our backup qb?
EDIT:
I responded without reading to the end of the thread. Agreed!
