Nantz and simms are terrible on their best day, so when they really funk up the joint it makes them even worse. i seriously hate when they call patriots games.

I actually like Phil Simms. I like to hear his take on the game, especially since he was a fairly successful quarterback back in the day.

They're both fine...people get too worked up over announcers.

That was a goofy moment, though.

Nantz is a complete idiot and Simms is angry and bitter. I can't stand either one.

Before the game, Nantz writes signature game enders -- one for each team. Some of them are pretty memorable, especially after the NCAA championships. It's kind of his trademark. If you watch any Nantz game, as soon as it ends, his partner gives him the floor and he reads something that was obviously scripted -- often containing a clever pun or something -- "the Butler did it." Nantz seemed pretty in control of the game, and during the strip sack, he was on top of what it meant.

I think he just has two pieces of paper -- and he pulled out the Jets one instead of the Patriots one and read it on autopilot, perhaps confused because of the weird end of game delay. I'd love to see the copy he should have read -- probably something about Brady's continued good record against the Jets or something.

I don't get why everyone on this board hates everything all the time. I mean, if it's Gus Johnson or something -- a guy obviously trying to be insane -- fine, I can understand strong feelings. But Jim Nantz? Cripes, you guys would hate Dick Enberg if he came back to do football.

Honest mistake. I knew what he meant and laughed it off.

Sometims I call my son by my dog's name and I'm not as old as Nantz. Mistakes happen when your thoughts collide in your head. sometimes 1 gets out and often times they are jumbled.

Did we hire Simms son as some type of assistant?

Agreed, usually I don't even notice the announcers. Most of the time, they're not good enough to stand up, and they're not bad enough for me to care. Nantz and Simms are no exception. Maybe it's because nothing short of Joe Morgan on Sunday Night Baseball can detract from my enjoyment of games, but the complaining about announcers around here is just very strange to me.

I actually kind of like Collinsworth. One of the few announcers that makes me feel like I'm getting some real insight from someone who is closely watching the game.

    No Jersey Selected

The one that bugged me was when the fumble was under review. Simms was talking about about it possibly coming under the Tuck Rule ...

"... Which of course began here in New England ..."

Nantz: "...Right, with that game against the Raiders ..."

THAT was egregious misinformation. I don't know how long the Tuck Rule has been around. But it did not "start" that night. And Pats fans know very well that it went against them and in the Jets favor — earlier in that 2001 season.

Again, no big deal. The fact that people remember the snow bowl game is an honor to me. That isn't the only thing that brings comments about that game from the announcers. Every time a kicker kicks in the snow AV's kick is shown.

That play brought change to the game as it should of. Doesn't change the fact or make the win mean any less. The call was correct and has rarely been missed since then.

While you're completely right, I think you need to be a bit more forgiving of guys who have the job of filling 3 hours of air with words.

The tuck rule did not start with New England Oakland, but if you ask 100 football fans, "I'm going to say a term, and say a game you think of," most would say, "Oakland/New England" in response to "tuck rule."

George Brett also probably was not the first player to use too much pine tar, but if you say the words "pine tar" to any sports fan, they will say, "George Brett." Just how sports kind of goes.

    All you Nantz haters......

I subject you to a sentence of watching a full season of 16 regular season games announced by Dan Dierdorf ..by himself and you having to use headphones for sound just so you don't miss any asshat commentary from him.

That will make you appreciate Nantz more..guaranteed

    Disable Jersey

They get paid very high professional salaries to do their jobs.
Displaying egregious ignorance should not be tolerated.

I was so spent by the end of the game, when he said it, I screamed at the TV, "It's the Patriots you idiot! After all that at least give us some props!"

Thank you, seems like a lot of people here(or just a lot of fans in general) claim every single annoucer sucks and hates their team. Simms and Nantz are probably the best crew either that or Michaels and Collinsworth(he's gotten much better). I used to like Gruden but his love for some scrub players has gotten a bit much lol.
