It sounds like he's talked with Edelman's agent ...

He earned it too. I would make Amendola's deal a starting point in my negotiations if I were him.

Wether we should pay it or not is a tough choice.

To me it comes down to one of two options let him walk and stick it out with DA or sign him to about what DA got and opt out of DA next year.

Having both for the season might limit what else you spend at the position so those pining for a down field threat likely wont get it not that they will for sure if walks too.

I wouldn't pay Edelman anymore than a #3 on the depth chart type money.

Because that is what he is. I'm not saying he didn't have his moments, but Brady force feed him the ball all year.

If he was in Denver he might take Caldwell's spot as the number 4

Why not restructure Amendola's contract so you can accommodate Edelman to be more in line with that? I think the bigger sticking point than the dollars will be the term of the contract. I dont think Edelman will take anything less than a 3-4yr deal.

Base Amendola on what he did in week 1, not what what he did with a busted groin. Also, Amendolas contract has games played contingencies. I can guarantee Edelman won't get a similar deal from the Pats. If everyone is healthy he would be the fourth option. He is just about as injury prone as the other guys although in his defense he is a great punt returner.

Seems like everyone on here thinks everyone on our roster's contract can be restructured. Can players contracts be restructured? Sure. But people seem to think it's just that easy to do it for everyone.

And the player must be willing. DA can tell the Pats to go eff themselves. It costs more to cut him. We have zero leverage.

If that's true, the Pats would be silly to pay him that contract. He's had a great year, but it's one great year. He's never had more than 37 receptions or 359 yards receiving in a season, and I'm not sure if he's played a full season without injury prior to this year.

I love Edelman and want him back, but not at that price. Just because the Pats overpaid for Amendola doesn't mean they should overpay for Edelman, too.

If that's really his stance, then Emmanuel Sanders would be a much cheaper option, or Jeremy Maclin on a 1-year "prove it" deal.

There is little reason for Amendola not to accept restructuring his contract, converting his $3M into bonus money, saving $1M or so. Since $2M is already guaranteed, he might ask for $1M of his 2015 salary be guaranteed.

The key is that when MOST of us discuss "restructuring", we mean that the new contract provides the player with no reductions in compensation and provides a small benefit. For some others, to "restructure" means to take a pay cut. That is a different concept entirely.

Restructuring simply give the player the same money faster with more guarantees and defers the cap effect until later years.

    No Jersey Selected

There's no way that Bill is giving Minitron Toughglass money.
Hell, Toughglass shouldn't have been given Toughglass money.
