What would they gain by IRing him? They could send him to a spa until the playoffs and it would be the same thing. Any player picked up now would probably never even be active.
Call me cynical, but I'm guessing Howe took the fact that he's not practicing and Jones is coming back and is rolling the dice that Easley's hurt more than we know and hoping for a scoop.
If he's wrong, it's just another forgotten article.
Just started reading this thread but I agree here.
IF his knees are seriously bothering him, rest him 4 weeks until before playoff game ONE. If he's good to go or close keep him. If not IR him then and add some 53rd guy for depth at an injury position.
I smell
The Patriots are considering placing their first-round pick on injured reserve as a means to get him in a healthier position for the 2015 season, according to a source. It's not so much of a setback as it is a way to hit the reset button for the defensive lineman out of Florida, the source explained.
It'll be a bummer if it turns out that way, but if he wasn't going to contribute much over the remainder of the season then I can see the logic. It's definitely not a good sign, but I prefer taking this approach with young, premium talent vs. what they did with Dobson last year after he hurt his foot.

Based on my understanding from last night's information -- and I feel very strongly about it -- Easley has not suffered a true setback with the knee. It's more about him playing catch-up all season and the Patriots feeling it's best for him to set his sights on 2015. It's already a difficult adjustment for any rookie, and Easley is recovering from his second torn ACL since 2011, so these things take a toll on a young player.
It was probably just a little too much a little too quickly, and the short-term gain isn't worth the long-term risk, especially with the health of the defensive line rounding back into form. The Patriots remain high on the kid. Just hearing his teammates discuss his explosion on the practice field is interesting, and obviously he's not even 100 percent yet. With a chance to go all in for 2015, expect a far superior product in his sophomore year.
One other thing to keep in mind: The Pats don't want a repeat from Aaron Dobson's situation. If Easley did suffer a setback in the next month, the last thing they need is for it to eat into his second season. I think the Patriots are making a good decision here if they do indeed place Easley on IR, and that's definitely the way they're leaning.
I have never seen any DT get off the line as fast as Easley prior to the injury and that's at any level. I still love the pick, I also think the article is assumption, I think anyone could look at the injury situations for Easley and conclude that the Patriots consider putting him on IR.. It's nothing more than filling a blank page. He's lightning off the line, too quick for a lumbering guard or center to keep up.
And who else has that same resume? Dominique Easley. Right now, it's all about the knees. remember those college pictures of Easley hitting the center when no on else on the line had even lifted his hand yet...and not being off-sides????!!!!!
He was hurt out of training camp I believe. But microfracture surgery for a DL is no joke. Supposed to be gone at minimum 9 months, so I'd agree his is likely wiped out.Well I didn't hear anything about that or read anything about that. Maybe I have been on Mars then for the past 5 months. Sigh. I probably should edit it to try to save some face but nah...
The shame comes from creepy pencil guy!I apologize for my outburst and the shame I have brought to my family.
I don't know. That excerpt makes sense. Do we really want a repeat of the Dobson situation with Easley?"Football players play football."
I can't seem to remember who said this...
If he is able to go, he will dress. What do we do if we ir him and Jones has a set back and another dlinemen gets dinged?

http://espn.go.com/blog/boston/new-...he-patriots-notebook-42?ex_cid=espnapi_publicEasley not at the facility. One player pointed out that rookie defensive lineman Dominique Easley wasn't present at the facility, which was reflected in his chair being folded up on its side. Easley (knee) has missed practice all week and the Boston Herald reported that the team is considering placing him on injured reserve; Easley's absence from the facility could be another hint that type of move could be coming. He played nine snaps against the Chargers on Sunday, used as an interior rusher in obvious passing situations, and the explosion and get-off in which he's known for wasn't evident.

Patriots rule DT Dominique Easley (knee) out for Sunday's game. Nine players, including Chandler Jones & Dont'a Hightower, are questionable
Not Mars. Nope nope nope.Well I didn't hear anything about that or read anything about that. Maybe I have been on Mars then for the past 5 months. Sigh. I probably should edit it to try to save some face but nah...
Word is Dikembe was deported to the Practice Squad. Apparently the clock wasn't respected.I'm withholding judgement until Dikembe chimes in with true knowledge, no? And eff the commies, yes
If in fact the team felt it would be best to shut him down, I would anticipate an IR move early next week. That way, his replacement would have a full week of preparation for the NYJ.Easley was not at the facility Friday and declared "out" for Sunday. He seems to be heading in the wrong direction, unfortunately. It is still possible, however, that he remains on the roster while convalescing as Chandler Jones did. I am actually encouraged that despite missing the entire week of practices and the game, they are keeping him on the roster.

His replacement, if there is one, is likely to come from the PS where he has been practicing all along. If in fact the team felt it would be best to shut him down, I would anticipate an IR move early next week. That way, his replacement would have a full week of preparation for the NYJ.
