Lets me start by saying this is a hypothetical situation to think about ..
Right now as Pats fans we are all bummed out and sad knowing our Patriots deserved to make the playoffs and that having Brady would have possibly given us the one more win we needed to get to 12-4 (like the narrow losses to the Jets and Colts he usually pulls out) and go on to the playoffs,BUT it didnt happen so it is what it is
BUT
What happens in a hypothetical situation if we trade Cassel to a team that gives us two draft picks in the first three rounds this draft and those 2 very picks happen to be players that end up in 2 or 3 years from now to be all pro defensive players for years to come (assuming the 2 picks we would get from the Cassel trade would be used on defense)
And if those 2 players become true superstars because Brady got injured allowing Cassel to show his talent and we were able to get good value for him now instead of not getting anything for him had he not played in his contract year,In 2 years down the road from now would you look back at this season saying even though Brady got hurt it was for the better because we now have 2 staples of greatness of defense? or would you still look back at this year as a 'what if Brady never got hurt how would we have finished?'
This hypothetical situation of course is with the knowledge that Brady will be fine and healthy and starting for the Patriots in 2009 and beyond
How would you reflect back on this 2008 season in 2011 or 2012 with this if we ended up getting two dominating all pro players for these picks we may get for Cassel now? - Would you still be wishing Brady would have completed the season? or be glad that Cassel was able to show his stuff and get those 2 great draft picks out of it??
