We have three Day One picks and two in the 4th (presuming one compensatory in the 4th). The rest of the picks start at best at the very end of the 5th.
The defense didn't get any of the top picks last year. Will they get them all this year?

Two. OL and WR in the 4th.

Nice symmetry you found there, Mark.

I expect it to be all D at first ... with the possible exception of a running back.
    The O seems set, doesn't it? ...

Gosh, we've already used one day one pick on offense, which should impact your question. I can see one or two of the top five remaining going towards offense.

I also think it will be D with the picks (or pick, with a trade up) in R1. If we go up, it will be for a SS or a LB that we like. If we stay put, and take 2, I'd guess a both a DB and a LB. I'll go with a second DB, an OL, and a RB for the next 3 picks. So that's 2 Off players in the top 5 (or 4).

I am going to disagree if there is a "stud" OL available at either 24 or 28 they might go for it, seems we can never have enough depth at these positions. As much as I see the need for a D draft, somehow cannot see these guys passing over an O lineman for quality backup.

I agree: no offense until the 6th, with the possible exception of a RB. I would note that a QB is also possible in the 4th.

It comes down to who is worth what to the Patriots,

I think 2 LBs in round 1; a safety from among Weddel, Piscitelli, Wendling or Rouse in the 3rd if two lbs have been picked; or maybe Zak DeOssie if not.

If Lorenzo Booker RB is available in the 4th they take him, but I don' think he's there. Then Rowe or Edwards as developmental QBs for a 4th, and Soliai NT for the other. Its too dependent on whats on the board that is left for the later rounds, but I like Danny Sepulveda P with a pick.

As long as both 1#'s are for defense I will be happy.

I would love to get a RB on day 1, someone to help on ST and backup Maroney. (Leonard or Hunt) And I would love a huge road grading ROT (Ugoh). I'd feel better if Kazcur was the third OT and O'Callaghan the backup ROT.
I originally thought Leonard in the second and Ugoh in the third as our comp pick for Adam. But since then Ugoh has been on a steady climb up the draft board, even though he's a terrible pass protector and we've traded away our second round pick.
Another OL guy that intrigues me is Cameron Stephenson of Rutgers (late round or UDFA). He opened a lot of holes for Rice last year, but he's also a weak pass protector.
Of course we have to take a TE at some point. I like Ben Patrick as a blocker, especailly if he has a year or two to work with Woicik. He's nothing special as a receiver. I might also consider Chandler of Iowa, he's got some good height.

I suspect that we will not draft 10 players. We will use at least a

couple of draft choices to trade up a little or trade for 2008 choices.

With our day one picks we will draft three defensive players. The second

day our picks will be best player available. We have the room on the roster

for a running back and a developmental quarterback. We are well

stocked at offensive line, wide receiver, and tight end. A lot will

depend on whether a highly rated player like O'Callahan falls into our lap.

Ass-u-ming a 4th-round comp and no trades, I wouldn't be upset if all 5 4-round picks consist of: ILB, FS, CB, LB (I or O), DB (C, F or S). The only offensive players I want chosen therein are the LT of the Future or the 3rd-down Back of the Future. I want multiple LBs, multiple CBs, and multiple Ss from this draft.
