A surprising lack of love for #44 here after the Panthers game, where I thought his versatility really shone through.

While I suspect that if his 43 yard run had begun in a regular season game he'd have been knocked over in the process of his first cut back when he opened up the hole. once he got moving he looked both quick and strong, barrelling through a couple of tackles and putting his shoulder into one guy.

My eye is less trained in these matters than others, but it looked to me like he made a couple of great blocks early on and he is sound in the passing game.

While I share the concerns of many that we don't have a definitive number two back on our depth chart at the moment, the combination of Faulk/Morris/Evans gives the team plenty of options, particularly when Maroney needs a break, and with a beefed up passing game, these guys should be a powerful component in the offence as the season shapes up.

Actually Evans run had him on a LOT of people's "WHO'S HOT" lists.

Oh, OK. I've been away a little and went back through some posts but perhaps not far enough.

Watching the Panthers game though, I thought he looked a little like Tom Rathman in his pomp. And that's OK...

Actually, the most asked question was "When did Evans become John Riggins?" *LOL*

I was thinking Mike Alstott once he got in the open field.

I think the two key points in answer to your question is a) It is a preseason game.......and b) This has been the problem that has hounded Heath Evans since he came in the league......one GREAT performance and then several average at best (and often....less than average) performances in a given season. The guy at best is a short down back, goal line back occasionally (but has shown to go down pretty quickly when hit near goal line....and the better option imho would be Sammy Morris if not Maroney)....and most importantly a blocking back for us.......Props to Heath.....great preseason performance......but look for him mostly to open holes for Maroney........one man's opinion......

I've wondered if they have Heath set up far enough behind the line to get a head of steam up when he's hitting the short yardage lanes...then again Woicik got Ty Warren to "explode" last season and may have done the same for Vince this year, so Heath could just be getting some new spring in his step. I'll cheer him on regardless.

I think it's all a marketing ploy for when Mr. Evans goes into business. . . .

IIRC, the LB he ran over was Beason, the Mia. rook who had been laying some pretty good hits earlier in the game. Welcome to the NFL, Mr. Beason....
