i was thinking ,BB being good friends with urban meyer (and our offense somewhat similar to the spread offense of his ?)we would use o'connell in that look like tebow, run or throw option.

Cool! Maybe next year when Maroney is back from IR we can see how it works.

I think wildcat is becoming a legit formation now it works there is no way to stop it 100% of the time just like any other formation it won't always be successful. More and more teams are using it. It's just and advancement to the game.
I bet Brady is itchng to catch a 40 yard pass from moss for once when he returns :p.

Unless Moss has the berlin wall blocking for him I don't think a line in football could give him the 17 seconds it would take a non knee blowout Brady to run 40 yards down the field let alone a surgically repaired knee lol.

Really? Then he must be pissed this season, I'll bet he was fuming when Randy tossed that ball back to him last year also....

Don't speak for people you don't know personally.

Hell, that kind of talk isn't even admissible in our courts..

Oops, I didn't stay on topic. I do not like the "Wildcat" in this teams offense, they are not built to perform it. Don't get me wrong, I do think it is effective, as shown weekly...but...

They don't need to deploy that style, it wasn't effective and won't be with this years blocking and speed. The Pats need to stick with what works, pounding the ball up the gut (NO DANCING) and dink/dunk passes.

I still have a firm belief that the Pats will be playoff bound..so long as they don't turn 'copycat' like the rest of the league.

Let BB & co. make their own schemes, they have worked for the UNDERDOG Pats in the past ;)

Well, perhaps not 40 yards, but we had enough time in that game vs. the Fins in '01 for him to grab that 23 yard pass from Faulk!

YouTube - 1960to2008 around the 4:15 mark. Oh the memories.

Also, he showed some nice hands on a 40 yarder in practice: YouTube - Tom Brady catches a 40 yard touchdown pass

I believe Kevin Faulk used to be a QB in High School. He's thrown passes before, and it's not like the Pats are strangers to misdirection and subterfuge.

OR: (Just thought of this) Maybe they put it in the paper so other teams will prepare for it and the Pats will never run it again!

The Wildcat is not just for throwing the ball down the field, and it would likely be utilized for maybe 2-3 plays per game max. It's just a different look that gives different options for the offense. And it works because defenses usually are not expecting it when it happens.

I'd prefer not to see Brady getting tackled in any kind of open field setting if it can be avoided.

    No Jersey Selected

The Wildcat works most effectively when someone runs in motion past the QB/RB at the time that the ball is snapped. IIRC, nobody was doing that when Faulk had the ball in his hands; therefore, instead of worrying about 3 possibilities (straight run, pass or handoff), the dolts only had to worry about a run or a pass, IOW just what they usually have to worry about. The Wildcat can work here, but only if the coaches maximize its potential.

yes, It would make more sense to have O'Connell out there. I am not a big fan of this formation at all for the Pats. BB is good at coming up with schemes that the other team has not seen before. The wildcat is all over the league, and it's not like he did anything different then any other team. BB should come up with his own formation.

If BB could come up with a new formation that has never been seen then i would hail him as the true god of coaching very little hasn't been seen. There is very little that hasn't been done from 5 wide to 0 wide. The wild cat is not new it's just single wing with a 2 wide set. I played against a team that ran 1 wide from single wing 2 in the back field lots of misdirection. Very hard to defend every man has to be maned up until you can see the ball.
