Devin McCourty pro bowl

I'm not sure there is a poster whose opinion I disagree with on a regular basis such as yours coolguy. There is simply no way you can be a Patriots fan given your consistent negative posting toward Patriots players.

McCourty has been outstanding this season.

He has had his best season at S for sure. Some games better than others.

My only issue is that he goes out of his way to avoid contact.

Feel free to provide some videos to reinforce your point if you believe that to be true.

No one on our team deserves to go to the pro bowl. They deserve to go to the superbowl for the single reason that we play as a team.... well, maybe not spikes, but he already has a porno.

Devin McCourty deserves to go to the pro bowl, that's not just Pats fan logic, he has been one of the best safety's in the league. However it came out today that he was 10th in the pro bowl safety voting, which seems very low for how well he has played this season. Perhaps I am wrong though, has McCourty really not played nearly as well as I think or is really that safety isn't nearly as sexy of a position as CB and the fact that McCourty doesn't have lots of box score stats that people can see. Or maybe its the fact that McCourty struggled so much after his all-pro 2010 season, I really do not know. I view Devin McCourty as a defensive leader on this team and one of the best defensive players in the NFL, one who should be given strong consideration for an extension this off season. But what do you all think?

I voted for him but it'[s fine IMO either way.

If he's not making pro bowls it just means that he wont cost us as many $$$.

Would the AFC ones be Weddel, Ward and Berry ahead of him?

McCourty is a lock to be extended in my opinion.

When that occurs however, is anyone's guess. It may get done this offseason, or they may have some sort of a verbal agreement/understanding that as soon as they are able to work it out due to other priorities, it will be done.

Either way, I think we're all in agreement that prior to him hitting free agency in March of 2015, he will most certainly be extended.

The thing is, if most of us can see the sterling job McCourty has been doing for the Patriots both on and off the field, you can bet your bottom dollar the Front Office is aware of it. The notion that the Patriots are cheap irks me. Bill's guys always get paid.

Unfortunately there is a contingent of posters here who only post to say something negative, and if the team sucked they might have a case, but it is really hard to see how the most successful team of its era, and possibly the most successful team of all time is just filled with players who suck and run by a guy who sucks at picking those players. It defies all logic, other than that which says they really aren't fans.

I would assume that a guy who works hard, plays smart, shows versatility by sometimes switching back and forth from S/CB, and has been voted as a captain, would be the typical Belichick kind of signing.

The only real question in my mind is how quickly they are able to do it--that's all. Since he's not up for free agency for another 15 months, it be not be as soon as we think due to other priorities coming sooner. Of course IF that's the case, one would have to think that they are on the same page and it's simply a technicality.

Sure hope so, but it will depend upon what he wants and his twin got big bucks, if he wants the same it could be tough to get done.

That's an interesting point, and one that I hadn't taken into account.

Jason received a 5/43 extension. That's some real serious coin right there. Of course one aspect to consider is that it did occur right before the downturn in the market, as it came in the 2012 summer. It will be interesting to see how the market for CB's swings this coming off season.

I'm hoping that Devin is closer to that of a safety than a cornerback, possibly something reasonably in-between. I was hoping that this negotiation wouldn't have to get ugly, and that McCourty would accept a reasonable offer. Not necessarily a hometown discount, but something that isn't considered top of the market either---although one may argue that they are the same definition.

I still think they can get it done but it will cost more than they would have liked. He really is a safety and a very good one, and CB's make more, but they are going to have to pay him top safety money to get it done imo. He's not getting 50 million but he will likely end up around 25-30.

Your proposed range is pretty much in line with what I've thought too.

I think that would be very reasonable, while also taking into account both the market and the fact that he can switch back and forth when they see appropriate (or are forced into it).

Ive voted many times for my boy and will continue to.

DMC will prob get 6-7 mill a season and talib will prob get 7.5-8 mill a season.

They are no longer doing afc nfc

He's way overrated on this board and does not deserve to go. Other than a play or two; all he has done this season is tackle the player after they catch the ball.

You should really invest in a cable subscription so you can start watching the games.

That's hilarious. After initially comparing McCourty to Tebucky Jones and generally making a bunch of asinine evaluations, you're still making things up to diminish the guy.

Easier to just admit you were mistaken.

Very funny... this year's first two games were the first games I missed in years because I was out of the country.

Tell me what makes him so good? All I see him do is tackle after the catch.

Have you noticed a difference this year in the frequency of long completions being made against this defense versus the several years prior?

gee thanks:rocker:

"There is simply no way you can be a Patriots fan given your consistent negative posting toward Patriots players." Can you please read my post history before you make claims like this.

I WAS THE ONLY HERE THAT SAID THOMPKINS AND DOBSON WOULD TURN IT AROUND!!!
I was the first person that said chandler jones was the best player on defense and may be the best player on both sides of the ball.

I can post other times where i was positive on players but you (or the ones that liked that comment) would care.

I just don't buy most of the players on this team at all.
