the first of the inactives. Starting to look like a chronic problem.
KANSAS CITY, Missouri -- The New England Patriots ruled out cornerback Alfonzo Dennard -- an opening-day starter -- for Monday night's game against the Kansas City Chiefs (ESPN, 8:30 p.m. ET).

This marks the third straight game that Dennard will miss. Second-year player Logan Ryan likely will start in his place again.

Dennard was listed as probable on the team's final injury report, so the downgrade comes as a mild surprise.

Strange how he was downgraded from Probable to Out. Wonder why they even gave him a probable status in the first place.

Setback? Either way, it sucks.

set back it sounds like. Luckily we are very deep at CB and Browner comes back next week. Either way he is the 3rd best CB on the roster after Browner IMO. Sucks but looks like Ryan across from Revis tomorrow....even with how bad he struggled last week. Maybe try Butler again?

The only other possibility re: Dennard is some sort of "work ethic"/"team rules" violation.

Not saying it is, merely that it could be an explanation for probable to out (as opposed to questionable to out).

Dennard is a really good cb and I would say the #2 behind revis. Browner hopefully can be very good though when he comes back next week.

They don't need Dennard tomorrow and with Browner coming back..if he is still injured or re injured it....we can manage back there

Yeah we probably don't need him tomorrow, but I would like to have him back as soon as possible.

Dennard and Revis are the team's two legit, all-around, corners. After that, Browner is a limited mauler, Ryan's another Rutgers guy who needs to move to safety, Arrington's strictly a short area slot guy, and Butler's probably a dime back.

I'm just hoping that Dennard doesn't need additional surgery on that shoulder.

Dennard is our clear #2. Ryan has been to inconsistent so far. Flashes in one game, then mediocre in the next.

Browner will mostly need over the top help unless he has presses and jams his receiver immediately.

Not feeling very confident about his game with Ryan starting.

Ryan had a really good game vs. the Vikes. I think he wasn't nearly as bad as people made him out to be last week. The Raiders completed a lot of short passes, but most of their drives went nowhere (they crossed the 50 yard line once in the first half and two more times in the second plus one where where they started on the Pats' 48). The Pats played to not give up the big play which they didn't.

The Chiefs do not have a good receiving corp. So missing Dennard should not be a huge problem. I would rather give him one more week because they will definitely need him against Cincy. They have multtiple receiving threats.

When did Ryan become a member of the Jets' secondary? He good two weeks ago and not that bad last week.
That's what scares me about him. He can play solid or horrible in any game at anytime. You never know what you're going to get with him.

You do realize that the Pats have the #1 pass defense in the league? I know the Pats haven't faced a murder's row of QBs by any stretch of the imagination, but that tells me the guy hasn't played horrible very much at all this year.

I don't get why you would be scared. Because of what he did his rookie season? Because of the BS PI call he got at the end of the game last week?

He played very poor last week imo. Got beat a bunch of time by Streater and Holmes.

Donnie Avery scares you?

With Dennard, you can put Revis on Bowe and Dennard on Avery pretty much all game long, and still have 8 men to move around, if you're keeping McCourty as a high safety.

With Ryan, you can't go one-on-one with Avery. That matters. It means that McCourty, or another player, has to be available to help on pretty much every play, which limits the blitzing and coverage schemes more than they would be otherwise.
