It's not that we're stupid, it's that Bill Belichick and Scott Pioli are smarter than all of us combined.
Every day that they don't spend splitting atoms or designing space shuttles is a graceful gift to Patriots Nation at the expense of human development and possibly even world peace.
Where most students of this team saw holes at inside linebacker, wide receiver and in the kicking game, the coach and vice president of player personnel saw foundations — the kind of holes you can build on.

Well, in the preseason finale against the Giants, Gostkowski went 3-for-3 on field goals, making him perfect for the preseason and, more importantly, he nailed a 54-yarder to damper concerns about his range.
"He was able to try a long field goal, so at least the next time won't be his first one," Belichick said.
As a result, people are thinking that Gostkowski made a have been a find in the draft. And comparisons to Vinatieri's rookie season are already swirling.
And so is the idea that Belichick and Pioli knew what they were doing the whole time.
