If a rookie QB is really good, he redoes his deal after the 2nd year now. Burrow, Herbert, Josh Allen, even Kyler Murray. These people are making $40-50m in year 3. Current annual for a rookie QB selected at #3 is $10m a year. So, 6 years of a rookie if they pan out is $220m. If Fields gets $35m for the same length, it's $8m for next year, then $175m for the last 5.Justin Fields minus 3 years of a rookie contract is not better than getting any of the guys you stated in the second round. BTW, I hope everyone is noticing the offensive lines here. Do you think they are making an impact?
The trend toward redoing rookie deals for QBs in the 3rd year has practically eliminated the perk of taking a rookie QB.
