There are an awful lot of whispers about how much of a jerkwad Nick Saban is, and I see little recently to make me feel those whispers are unfounded.

Apparently he had a scheduled meeting this morning with Huizenga, but decided to just phone in his quitting instead. I thought that was kinda classless, especially after the way Huizenga stood by Saban publicly these past few weeks.

    Just IMHO...

I don't think it's a big deal. Now, if he'd flown to 'Bama overnight and shown up at a press conference without contacting Huizenga that would be different.

    Roll Tide Roll.
(I still love Notre Dame for Charlie and root for the Gators but I have to get used to my new college team - they'll be #2 behind Notre Dame for me).

I agree, Saban appears to be very unsure of himself in this situation. Don't take this wrong, it's just putting things in perspective - but it doesn't sound much different than hurriedly scribbling a resignation on a piece of paper.

No offense, but I am pretty sure Saban could care less about your opinion. He is going to get $40 million dollars and have a better quality of life, less hours, better work-life balance. If I was in his shoes and had an opportunity to spend more time with my family and achieve long-term stability I would do it in a second.

Sure he screwed the Phins but the NFL is a business. The Dolphins are big boys, a $1B organization and will be fine. Personally I am happy, it hurts a division rival and helps our draft process.

Your info is wrong. Huizenga met with Saban in Saban's home this morning. They live within two blocks of each other.

I've driven by the Huizenga house in Martin County (I'm sure he has a house farther south as well) and it's insane what that guy has. Private Golfcourse beside his house. Helicopter pad. Crazy money.

    Let's put this in perspective.

He had to, repeat, had to say he wasn't interested in the 'Bama job for the last month or so. He knew it wasn't true, and I'm sure the players on the team had an inkling it wasn't true as did Huzienga. What choice did he have but to say he wasn't interested? Anything else and he would be throwing his team under the bus.

With that, any normal person would feel somewhat "bad" about saying that and then going back on what he said so soon. I'm sure Saban doesn't feel good about the way this went down but knows the deal is a great one for him and his family.

I am convinced that this decision has been influenced by the QB position in S Florida. They blew the Culpepper decision, Harrington is a hack, and Cleo Lemon will not produce lemonade. The D's time was now and the window is closing rapidly. The notion of drafting a QB and working him into the system would be time wasted in the Nictator's world. The Larry Brown of Football has struck again. This is good news for the Pats and the rest of the AFC East.

None taken, and I gladly agree he doesn't give 2 craps about my opinion, but here's a little newsflash for ya: This is a football forum where people like you and me discuss our opinions on things that go on in the football world. We all opine on things that involve people that don't care two craps about any of us. So your response is somewhat bankrupt in the sense that it could apply to virtually every single post in this forum.

Well maybe he should have thought of that 2 years ago before taking the NFL job. Don't fool yourself into thinking this decision was about spending more time with the family. Rather it was because life in the NFL was harder than he thought it would be. He had huge expectations for Miami this year and failed to live up to them. If the Dolphins went 12-4 this year, won the division and a playoff game or two, he wouldn't be leaving for Alabama today.

I disagree that this hurts them. I think another year of having a mediocre coach that doesn't want to be there would be the most harmful thing that could happen to them...

    Disable Jersey

Add in the fact that the Phins only have around $20M cap to spend and something approaching 30 players to be signed or replaced, BEFORE any potential additional FAs.

Welcome to the AFCE cellar Aqua4ever!

OK thank you for the correction. Obviously, my info only comes from what I have read from other sources, and those sources are now backing down from their initial claims that Saban blew off the meeting.
