Brandon Tate-Reggie Wayne V2?

Good news. I just want him to be able to show what he can do. Sitting on the PUP/IR isn't good for a young WR. The more he can work with Brady the better.

It's not bad either, as in, you'll still be under contract instead of being cut when there are 5 veterans with their head on straight in front of you.

I'm not seeing the comparison. Wayne isn't particularly explosive but an outstanding route runner/fundamentals guy. IMO he's the Tim Duncan of the NFL just not as great at his position (in Duncan's prime). I don't see Tate being that type of player more of a Stallworth type.

Reggie is good because he...
1) Gets off of jams and runs crisp routes.
2) Uses speed and subtle hand movements to create separation.
3) Makes great catches with his Hands

If you read Tate's scouting report you will see that all of the things Tate excels at Wayne does as well. If and that is a big If, Tate can put it all together I think you will see the similarities between the two styles of play. Plus both are 6-0 195lbs.

And who ever said Santana Moss, Moss-5 10' Tate-6' The only simmilarty I see between these two is the production in the return game.

In pads, I think Tate looks faster than Wayne.

gotta say, i love the tate pick. maybe could have had him after another round or so, but he's an excellent receiver. im pretty sure tate was only overshadowed by nicks this past year. tate has a pro skill set, and could really be a solid #2 in 2010 and beyond.

Slightly larger Derrick Mason makes sense to me. Productive return man, shifty, physical although not very big...if we just got a Derrick Mason type player than that's a steal in round 3.

So if you expect a specialist that can muck in for injured players and eventually develop into an Eddie Royal type of player, you will probably be happy with Tate. Expecting a burner that just runs past corners on every snap? Not so much...

From the scouting reports that I've read, they say that he is more quick than fast. So I expect he'll have the quick twitch to create separation but not necessarily be a burner. If Tate can turn into an Eddie Royal or Greg Jennings type of player I'd be more than happy with that. Plus his return skills appear to be pretty outstanding, so he can contribute on ST as soon as he gets healthy.

I was under the impression that his skills as a return guy are quite a bit above his skills as a receiver, so I was hoping / thinking he might be a larger and more muscular version of a Randel-El or even Devin Hester, someone who when healthy will make an immediate impact on special teams and may learn the ropes as a receiver in a few years.

BTW, reagarding his injury - Deion Branch tore his ACL on January 17 and had surgery in February - he returned in Week 5 of that same year.

Tate had his surgery on October 15 and is said to have had no setbacks. In fact that's about when Brady had his surgery.

I am not suggesting Tate will be ready for training camp or not PUPed but it is entirely possible we'll see him on the field this year.

I get strong vibes from Tate. I think he is going to be the best player out of our draft class by 2011-12.

Had he not had the injury, Nicks would of been the 2nd rounder from N Carolina. Tate was the unanimous #1 for that team before the injury. He will be elite again.

I am not saying Brandon Tate is Reggie Wayne right now, I am saying with patience and guidance from Moss, Galloway, Lewis, and Welker, he has the tools to turn into a Reggie Wayne type receiver. The ST contributions come as a bonus to this team.

I agree, I think Wayne is a real good comparison, both to me are more gifted as physical WRs in relation to straight-line speed WRs. Physically, they look like twins, same body types, same hands and both are strong on their feet.

This kid will red-shirt this year, come into the Tom Brady umbrella, which is the umbrella that turns medicore to good talent into maximized, optimized talent that has made some #2 WR's quite rich. Um yes, that's you also Deion.

2010, Tate steps into the #2 role next Randy and kicks off what I believe will be a great career. What a steal this kid is going to turn into to.

Fellas, let's not go puttin' him in Canton, just yet, okay?

I remember all the visions of sugar plums when we drafted Chad Jackson and we all went nuts over that hands competition YouTube. Turns out, that was pretty much the last time Chad Jackson caught a pass.

It's good to be excited and all, but these guys haven't played a down in the National Football League.
