So, has the Pats D been better than the Colts/Bronco's D in supporting their QB?
Well, I compared the defensive DVOA rankings for each team's D, starting in 2001. Both QBs missed a year, so it evens out. 2001 seemed like a fair year to start; it was Brady's first year and for Peyton it was just one year before Tony Dungy arrived in Indy. Anyhow, the numbers averaged out to be pretty similar. Way more than I expected.
Observations:
- Brady's D had 3 top-ten seasons. Manning's had 4.
- NE had 8 seasons in the top half of the NFL, Peyton's D had 7 seasons.
- Both have their highest ranking at 2nd.
- Brady's D has 3 seasons at 20th or worse. Manning has 4.
- NE and IND bottom-out at 30th and 29th respectively.
