So, has the Pats D been better than the Colts/Bronco's D in supporting their QB?

Well, I compared the defensive DVOA rankings for each team's D, starting in 2001. Both QBs missed a year, so it evens out. 2001 seemed like a fair year to start; it was Brady's first year and for Peyton it was just one year before Tony Dungy arrived in Indy. Anyhow, the numbers averaged out to be pretty similar. Way more than I expected.

Observations:
- Brady's D had 3 top-ten seasons. Manning's had 4.
- NE had 8 seasons in the top half of the NFL, Peyton's D had 7 seasons.
- Both have their highest ranking at 2nd.
- Brady's D has 3 seasons at 20th or worse. Manning has 4.
- NE and IND bottom-out at 30th and 29th respectively.

This would be a great addition to the Manning hatorade thread.

Re: Brady and Manning have had *nearly identical* defensive support over 12yrs(DVOA r

By the looks of that thing, you could actually make an argument Manning's had it a bit better. While the averages are in the Patriot's favor, Tom's had 3 top 10 defenses, to Manning's 4.

Re: Brady and Manning have had *nearly identical* defensive support over 12yrs(DVOA r

If you minus the seasons they didn't play it's TB 13.9 vs PM 13.7...:p

Except, I already did that....

I can tell you that if you showed that to a Manning fan boy the first thing they would point out is Mannings 2006 defense vs Brady's 01,03,04 but of course that would be ignoring the 3TD 7INT playoff performance where his defense carried him.

Re: Brady and Manning have had *nearly identical* defensive support over 12yrs(DVOA r

I'm at the point in my life where I truly believe I have enough arguments to thoroughly dismantle any kind of attempt someone makes at stating Manning > Brady. Really, I can't think of a single scenario that would make me think twice. Thanks to the fact Tebow won a playoff game with Denver last year, and Luck led a worse Colts team to a better record than Manning had with them in 2010, even the "Matt Cassel won 11 games, lol" argument has an extremely effective counter.

.... and every year, the evidence seems to be getting more and more heavily weighted in Brady's favor.

It would be extremely ironic if, in the year Manning gets his 5th MVP, the argument for him being better than Brady dies as Tom wins his 4th title. That would be borderline poetic.

Just out of curiosity, I had to check the rankings for yardage and points too....

2011 15	31

2007	8	18 4	4
2006	7	11 2	6
2005	1	3 17	26
2004	23	21 2	9
2003	2	11 1	7
2002	19	29 17	23
