Boom!!! In 3AM Saturday Morning Tweet Jerry Rice Falls on His Sword

Interesting summation by Curran except it treats Rice a bit too much like a victim. If he had kept his arrogant-ass mouth shut and not thrown shade at the Pats, I'd be feeling sorrier for his "legacy" getting ripped to shreds. As it stands now, I am pointing and laughing at this ridiculous mud fight between all these crybabies. All that matters to me is the Patriots. The rest of the NFL can stick it far up their asses.

Can we get Tedy Bruschi to get this spinning?

Why is this not on ESPN?

They went out of their way to disrespect the Pats and "inflate" the DeflateGate story to the fullest extent possible, yet they're refusing to post this story on their main site.

I lost a little bit of respect for Mike Reiss after he wrote that article criticizing the Pats when the "scandal" broke based on pure speculation, but he since apologized and now he's fully won back my support after being the only man with balls to report this story on "The World Wide Leader of Sports".

Ratings.

The same thing happened with Spygate, where comments by other coaches (i.e. Jimmy Johnson) were reported, but largely underplayed and ignored.

"I’m going to be point blank, I feel like it’s cheating. Because you have an edge up on your opponent and its unfortunate that it happened. I’m not saying the outcome of the game would have been different or anything like that because they got beat 45-7, but they still had an edge."

Based on that logic, we should asterisk Rice's Super Bowl wins as well. That 38-16 victory over the Dolphins and the 55-10 destruction of the Broncos, as well as the 49-26 blowout of the Chargers don't matter because they had an edge up on their opponent and it's unfortunate that it happened.

And what about the 20-16 victory over the Bengals? Rice was MVP, catching 11 passes for 215 yards and 1 TD in a narrow victory, including 3 on the final drive while the 49ers trailed. How many of those catches were aided by an illegal substance? If it helped with even one catch, the Bengals might have won.

The 49ers also had the whole salary cap skirting issue which Rice has conveniently overlooked.

I don't mind people asking questions, or wanting to know more. I don't even mind them being critical. But don't be a hypocrite. If you spent your entire career cheating, why the heck would you think you could be critical of anyone else's perceived cheating? What next? Is Ray Rice going to give me marital advice? Is Warren Sapp going to preach about integrity?

But Jerry Rice, the "GOAT WR" being outed as a cheater is a bigger ratings boost then ignoring the story completely, no?

I just read that piece

Roger? Where does Jerry Rice go to get his reputation back?

He needs a time machine, Tom.

It's a story from the 1980's and 1990's. We're in the 2010's. It would be a 100% non-story if he hadn't been stupid enough to talk about it at basically the same time he accused the Patriots of cheating because of allegedly deflating footballs a little bit.

Just like the Steelers and steroids, the 49ers cheating the salary cap and the Broncos cheating the salary cap, it would have gone almost completely ignored in the modern newsrooms.

Yes but the comment are very recent and come on the heels on him labeling the Patriots cheaters.

If info came out that George Bush Sr. was guilty of rigging the election to become President, it would be just as newsworthy then, as it is now. Doesn't change anything, but still is a scandalous story for the media to promote.

This is very news worthy stuff. Not sure how you can deny that.

Give them up Steve. You cant keep them. all tainted.

Who's denying that? It's news worthy precisely because of the underlined, and would be nothing at all without that, which is what I wrote in my earlier post.

I'll agree with you there.

If it's a cheating story that doesn't involve the Patriots (ie: Browns, Falcons) = Nonstory

If it's a cheating story that involves the Patriots = huge gigantic media driven scandal

It's all becoming a joke now

Exactly. Nobody gives a damn that the Panthers 'cheated' by warming up cold game balls, because the Panthers were a sub .500 team in 2014. The Patriots, on the other hand are the latest NFL equivalent of the New York Yankees, and everything involving the franchise is news.

Remember how ridiculously out of proportion the response was when Gronk and that porn skank were posing for pictures with her in his shirt? As BB says, it is what it is.

Sports radio around here was talking about the Falcons crowd noise thing and they just laughed it off and said, "What was their record at home? Not sure it helped. HAHAHAHA." And moved on.

This 4th Superbowl is so good.
