Well, Ninko was assigned as a LB, which is NOT is natural position. He would get killed covering slot receivers or TEs. He is NOT a LB. Only this year is when someone, thankfully, put him in as a DE. Since that switch, he has been disruptive, abeit not a JJWatt, but, pretty decent.
So, sometimes having a player be able to play various positions just does not work. In Ninko's case, DE is where he belongs.
I'll probably be crucified for saying this, but while Vrabel was considerably more athletic, there isn't really much of a difference on both guys' production, when you consider the fact Mike was blessed with much better players around him that helped elevate his play. The season Ninkovich had in 2012 would rank right up there with some of Vrabel's best. For the record: I know Ninkovich plays a different position, with different responsibilities. The comparison was made because, aside from the physical resemblance, both guys' play styles are remarkably similar.
