As of today, Rob Gronkowski leads all receivers in the NFL in yards per catch with 22.1. When has any tight end led the league in yards per catch midway through the season? Heck, the great, underappreciated Stanley Morgan (19.2 yards per catch lifetime) only topped that figure three times in a fourteen year career. As a point of reference, Ben Coates averaged 11.1 yards per catch during his career and Tony Gonzales, 11.4 yards per reception. Prior to this season, Gronk has averaged 14.5 yards per catch.

Why did Bill pass on Ron Gronkowski? Yeah Rob's okay but, Ron is the real star.

What is the minimum numbers of yards/catches that qualifies you for this stat?

The number is just from ESPN's stat page. I doubt that it's official. They list anyone who has caught even one pass.

That is totally incorrect by BSPN then. There's plenty of guys with 1 catch that's gone at least 25+.

Their numbers come from Elias, but you are correct. It seems that when you click on the yards per reception header, only those with at least twelve receptions are included. There are guys with fewer than ten catches whose average is above 22.1.

Gronk is in John Mackey country and that's saying something.

he's our deep threat!!

even last year he averaged around 16 yards a reception!

Those guys dont qualify. Gronk is the official lead in Yards per catch

Gronkowski has been amazing since Brady's return.

Lately Teams are having success covering him high-low with a safety and linebacker. He has to turn how to cut his route off in order to get open.

how does a guy w/ a 14 year career have an avg of 19.2 with only 3 years above that?

eitehr one or two or all three of those years had to have been a LOT higher than 19.2

or every year below the avg was only less by decimals

Morgan had 10716 yards on 557 receptions for a 19.23 yards per catch average. His highest year was his second when he averaged 24.1 yards per catch; his seventh year (1983) was his lowest with 14.9 yards per reception. He averaged more than 20 yards per catch in each of his first six years, but never thereafter. His greatest year was probably 1986 when he had 1491 yards and 10 TDs, though his yards per catch was "only" 17.8. Of course, years with more receptions count more in the career average.

He meant only 3 seasons with a yards per catch above that of Gronk's current average.
