I was poking around youtube looking for a better angle on Hernandez's tackle of Carter after Brady's INT last week, and I stumbled upon this video from last year:

Brandon Spikes; Week 6 vs Baltimore Ravens - YouTube

Yeah, Ray Rice is a big threat, but we have Spikes back.

    BRING IT!!

    10 solo tackles, 6 assists.

Almost all of Rice's runs are Tackle to Tackle. He averaged 3.1 YPC in that game. Hope Spikes can do it again.

Well, we stopped him at the line in OT!

You can be certain that Baltimore isn't going to repeat this. I think they'll go off-tackle and really test our ability to seal the edge, particularly Anderson, if he is on a lot of snaps like he was in the Broncos game.

This is the one time I would use both Fletcher and Spikes

You can never be certain of anything when Cam Cameron is calling plays.

You know how Belichick loves to "take away" one player from the other team - like how Antonio Gates had 0 receptions when we played SD at the beginning of the year - it seems to me that Ray Rice is the player to take away. Whatever personnel they have to put on the field, and whatever schemes they have to run, if they can neutralize Rice, they can undo the Ravens. Without Rice being productive, I don't think the Ravens can score more than 20, and I know the Ravens D is good, but I can't see Brady and Co. putting up less than 30.

That's an excellent point for this game.

Especially since Rice is their leading rusher AND their leading receiver.

You don't get those very often.

Watching this video, it hits me first that Spikes now looks alot bigger this year. He must have put on at least 10 pounds of muscle since that game.

Yes you can. You can be certain that Cameron will call a predictable and conservative game plan. Cameron is as bland as he is as awful.

Looking at ESPN's splits, Rice almost never runs outside.

Assuming their definitions are : Middle = over center, Left/Right = between the Center and Tackle and Sideline = outside the Tackle, only 35 of his 291 carries were off tackle.

The return of Spikes and the chance that the Pats may face all run first teams all the way through the Super Bowl makes me one happy camper. The schedule making gods have been very nice to the Pats so far this year.

If the Pats make it to the Super Bowl and the 49ers are the opponents, the Pats will not have faced one even above average QB in the playoffs. In the year of the QB, that is quite a freak occurance.

no you can't.....their OT's aren't as effective this year Oher has fallen off and mckinnie while playing fairly well, is not what either he or gaither used to be.

if the pats DL can reproduce the same physicality that they did against the broncos, you'll be seeing another team that will be handing the ball off while down several scores

With all the time he missed, I wouldn't be surprised if that weight gain isn't muscle..

I hate to say this, but there's always a possibility that Baltimore has figured out that BB would like to take Rice away. And, who knows, they may even be working on a way to stop this from happening....

I mean, BB is very smart, but the other coaches aren't exactly idiots.

Pretty bold statement when one of the coaches is Cam Cameron.

Spike needs to come up huge in this game again. I think he will. You can tell he's an emotional guy and he'll be amped up for this game and the defense as a whole seems to play and hit harder when Spikes and Chung are in there.

The return of Spikes and Chung as well as moving McCourty to safety has raised my optimism about our defense a ton.

Spikes provides an emotional spark that I want our team to have. He plays angry.

Chung provides some stability in the defensive backfield and is an obvious upgrade over Ihedigbo in coverage.

McCourty has struggled because he has a hard time playing man - last year he played more zone. Safety in this defense is a natural move for him. Play to a player's strengths.

They aren't world beaters but at this point I'm beginning to think we might just have a mediocre defense on our hands! :singing:

how the pats approach this game mentally will be the leading contributor to the outcome.

    this isn't 2009.

Yes but I bet Harbaugh has figured out that his entire offense revolves around Rice. When your leading receiver is your running back that tells you something about the QB and the receivers. And remember, Rice is not the leading receiver for the Ravens in yards but in receptions. And it is not even close. He had 76 receptions and the next guy had 57.

Yeah, because NFL players sit around doing nothing when they are hurt. He was probably doing more in a day during injury rehab then you'll do in a month. And most of it probably came during the off-season anyway.

If there's a time to break tendency this is it.

I see Bal'more taking a page out of our playbook and coming out 5 wide with Rice and their 2 TE's (who are a good duo, like an impoverished man's Gronk and AH).

I then see Flacco ******* it up.
