2016 Patriots' Pre-Draft Contacts.

Regarding drafting Reynolds…… Am I being too presumptuous to say it's not a question of "if" New England will draft this future slot WR but "when" New England will draft this guy. With so many picks in the mid to late rounds, NE can afford to take on a conversion project that ticks so many boxes. The question is, at least in my mind, will another team beat NE to the podium.
With Reiss stating NE has had 3 contacts with the Reynolds, plus BB's/NE's special relationship with Navy……seems the perfect fit……..NE = slot factory.
Or a 3rd down RB?
Both?

thing about Reynolds is that he has 32  career fumbles.

A big number…..but the kid was an option QB meaning the ball wasn't always tucked away when he was getting hit. And doesn't the QB get tagged with the fumble when his "option" can't secure the lateral?
Never saw him play….but his production, command of offense, quickness, leadership…..scream BB.

Rich Hill has an outstanding & detailed breakdown by attempting read between the lines of the pre-draft contacts so far.

All signs point to a 2nd round defensive tackle, trading down and picking up picks in the gap from 96th to 196th overall, a 3rd round offensive tackle and cornerback, and then a late-mid round running back. We'll have to wait and see.

I recommend reading the whole thing.

2016 NFL Draft: Curious Observations Regarding Patriots Known Private Visits

Given the reports that NE is still looking for depth DL….I won't be surprised to see a #2 get used.
I'm still thinking a #2 on a CB. Hoping a #2 at OL

I agree with Rich Hll, I think BB will look to take advantage of this DT class. Of course, if there's a number still available at the end of the 2nd then he might look to trade down and grab one in the 3rd and look somewhere else in the 2nd.

2016 NFL Draft: Curious Observations Regarding Patriots Known Private Visits
Given the depth at DL in this class, it seems wise to go DT in the second. If I had to place a bet, I would say it's pretty likely a DT is the first pick, Hogan and Reynolds are taken in the 6th/7th, one RB is drafted somewhere in the middle, and there'll be at least one OT taken at some point. Outside of that, I don't know.

As much as we would all LIKE a wide receiver high, the team has built decent depth at the position in free agency now, plus the Bennett trade means WR as a whole will not be quite as utilized with the TE position likely being used more. If they didn't take any receivers (besides Reynolds), I would be okay with it, but they would probably need to next year.

I disagree with Rich Hill regarding WR being one of the "biggest" needs. As currently constructed, NE has 3 starting caliber WR, though with over lapping skill sets…plus two prime TE targets likely to be on the field together more often than not. WR flyers…yes. Legit outside threat…….not with their draft slots. I expect multiple RBs drafted though…the thought of Donald Brown as "the guy" is terrible thought that I want to eliminate. And Blount again….no likey

Bear in mind though, this time next year our WRs will be Hogan, Martin and Edelman going into his final year as things stand right now. We could certainly stand to add another receiver if the right one is there.

Amendola is signed thru '17…….as of now. Gaffney as well.
Our '17 RBs as of now….Lewis and White
Our '17 LBs….don't include Hightower and Collins
My point…..lots of work all over this roster in the next two years and WR has the numbers compared to other groupings…like TE

I really don't think Amendola will be here this time next year. I don't have a problem with taking a linebacker or a RB but WR is still a position worth investing in.

A solid late round option. Not flashy, but gets the hard yards.

But...but Brady cannot throw the deep ball?:D:p

On serious if BB Reaches for Keyarris Garrett in the Second I would be happy the Offense desperately need a guy with his strengths or skill set.
