2016 Patriots' Pre-Draft Contacts.

Dan Vitale (FB/TE Northwestern) met with the Patriots twice at the combine. Very intriguing. 6-1, 239lbs, 4.58 forty (U), 38.5" vert, led all RBs on bench press with 30.

Note: I have never known so few reported combine contacts. Either the journals aren't doing as good a job this year or the Pats aren't overly interested in the offensive players in this draft. I suspect the former with maybe a dash of the latter thrown in too.

I wonder what the Pats would do with him. Seems too tall and long for an off the ball linebacker and doesn't have the size or strength to set the edge. Situational pass rusher only? A very tall linebacker? His combine numbers are very similar to Chandler Jones, he just happens to be 27lbs lighter. Is it realistic to bulk him up that much in a year and have take from Chandler in '17?

Bullard!

So, SLB, OT and RB and maybe CB, DE and/or DT seem to be the positions we're targeting this year with the usual caveats that BB could do anything.

The CB i mentioned in the pro day thread.

And Tony Pauline said we met with Devondre Campbell and Theirin ****ran at the Minnesota pro day.

I haven't watched him yet. Anyone?

NFL draft: Freakishly athletic Dan Vitale thrived as ‘superback’

Thirty-one of the 32 NFL teams showed up (only the New Orleans Saints skipped) for Vitale’s pro day, despite only a handful of other draftable prospects working out at Northwestern’s facility. Perhaps the best-known evaluator in the house was New England Patriots director of personnel Nick Caserio, the team’s de facto general manager, who met with Vitale privately after the workout. If there ever was a team that would value Vitale’s versatility, it would be the Patriots.

And that includes his work on special teams. Throughout his four seasons, Vitale has been a fixture on the team’s “core four” units, playing just about every spot there was to play. As his offensive role increased this season, playing 60 or more snaps per game in 2015 for the 10-win Wildcats, Fitzgerald dialed back Vitale’s special-teams work. But not by his choice.

Definitely sounds like a Patriot. Not sure where he fits in with Devlin already here, but I'm sure we could make use of him on special teams.

From what little I've seen of him he's a better receiver than a blocker. A receiving Hooman perhaps? Whatever role he plays, I don't think he'd be a significant offensive producer.

BB was at the Alabama pro day yesterday. Supposedly was focused on the DL. Gave Reggie Ragland a workout. Nick Caserio was at the Rutgers pro day.

Also:

Receiver Byron Marshall was fully healthy and able to test. His marks included 4.28 in the short shuttle and 6.95 in the 3-cone. Marshall looked good in position drills. He has a workout scheduled with the New England Patriots.
