For the Pats as a SB contender? What would have to happen to lengthen that life? (within reason) What would have to happen to shorten it? (again within reason) I'm curious what the window of opportunity is for this franchise in the fan's eyes.

When Brady hangs them up perhaps ...

In the meantime we can draft a QB in the 6th every year until then.

Currently Brady...BUT I would not be surprised if it continued after..

when Chris Hanson chooses to go out on top the Pats are done.

Someone a few weeks ago laid it out this way:

With Brady, they're an automatic playoff team

Brady + (Moss OR good defense) = Super Bowl contender

Brady + Moss + good defense = Super Bowl favorites.

Apologies to someone as I don't recall who broke it down like that, but I think it's perfect.

Currently, I give it until the end of the 2009 season. At that time, Wilfork and must of the offensive line are scheduled to become free agnts.

Not saying that problem cannot be remedied between now and then, but after Brady the lines are still the cornerstones of this team.

Who needs a friggin window or shelf life? Did the Giants need one?

You win championships by kicking butt in the playoffs, and it can happen any year by any team up to the challenge.

The pieces are in place for the next 4 yrs.. But you got to take advantage of it when its with you... The last 2 yrs could have put us in a the best sports dynasty ever.. But then again Espn will find a way to diminish it..

The next 4 yrs,as long as Belichick and Brayd are here , we will be fine.

Can't believe they left Belichick off the list. Dude has proven that he is the constant for SB appearances. Just ask Parcells.

Not sure about the Brady answer. If he plays like he did in the playoffs, we'll lose often.

He needs to stop thinking about hooking up in wine cellars and worry about football.

You give ESPN too much credit. Over time whatever the Patriots earn they will get the credit they deserve. Kind of useless anyway as the Patriots didn't get the job done the last two years.

Gee I remember about a guy that was worried about other stuff 10 yrs ago and not about football, and we aplaud Brady how he applies himself..

This just in , Brady still is focused on football..

yes cuz that 90% completion number he had in the jags game was so bad.

As long as we have Chad Jackson, we will be there.

I like Brady as much as anyone...but I ain't giving up when Brady is gone.

What I would consistently like to have however is good scouting and evaluation of players into systems.

This means a lot...

I think Kraft is a very smart owner, one of the best. Fortunately, it seems

that his son is also pretty smart. Therefore, I think we are probably in good

shape for the long haul, compared to most franchises.

I truly believe that when Brady retires, BB will go with him, and the sun will set on New England after one of the greatest ~15 year stretches a franchise has ever or will ever see.

With that said, we still have many more years to enjoy this, realistically 6, optimistically 8+ :)
