Mortensen: Rodney Harrison to be suspended 4 games for Human Growth Hormone

A guy like Harrison, getting injured and not playing must've absolutely destroyed him.

He decided to utilize all means necessary to heal up and get back.

It stinks and it is upsetting, but he'll be back.

I'm not gonna crucify him. He's one of our guys and I'll stick by him.

He made a big mistake, got caught and will pay for it.

Unfortunately, the team suffers also not having his talent on the field. That's the toughest part to swallow.
This pretty much sums up my feelings. I still love Rodney, and although he made a mistake, he manned up and openly admitted it at a press conference. He's still a classy guy, though human like the rest of us.

He'll pay his debt to society (well, OK, to the NFL) and I'll root for him when he comes back in week 5. And I bet most of you who are verbally castrating him in this thread will too.

He was getting HUGE on anabolic androgenic steroids. I don't doubt he took HGH too, but that's more for being able to walk the next day after pounding your legs to $h*t after a steroid fueled workout, and getting your body twisted, crushed, and maimed on the practice field.

He passed MANY anabolic steroid tests that the NFL made him take. He was a marked man.

Maybe it was a designer steroid that wasn't known... I guess it's possible.

Here is an article on hgh:

See guys, turns out there IS a perfectly reasonable explanation!

Harrison, a wannabe film star, only ordered the HGH to research his role in the upcoming independent film "The Rodney Harrison Story".

So this is really all much ado about nothing.

I'm sure there will be many other suspensions (hope no more from our team!). Hopefully, this will give trollish fans of other teams pause before they run their mouths over here...it would be supremely naive to believe their own teams' players were clean.

They say multiple suspensions are in the appeal process right now...this may be tip of iceberg.

ANOTHER WAVE OF SUSPENSIONS COMING SOON?

In our discussions with various league insiders, we've picked up some vague indications that a fresh wave of suspensions could be coming soon.

so HGH is not a steroid? But it is banned...

Can someone with a medical background explainthe difference?

HGH is a naturally occuring substance in the body. That is why it is so hard to test for.

However, it is also a performance-enhancing substance when taken as a supplement. It may have harmful long-term effects if taken, since the elevated levels of HGH in the system will have other effects besides making you bigger and stronger (like tumors). There are some who dispute this, and there is still a lot of research to be done as to any long-term effects.

The NFL lists it as a banned substance under the steriod policy. However, it isn't an illegal drug. It is used for medicinal purposes to treat certain problems. For instance, someone may have abnormally low levels of HGH, and doctors prescribe it to balance it out. It is also a common treatment for people with dwarfism.

However, it is supposed to be available only through a prescription, from a doctor who is prescribing it to treat specific problems.

Re: Felger-Harrison

******News Flash********

Felger is disappointed by Harrison's involvement with HGH.
He absolutely was not. He said 80% of NFL players use it and that anyone who is disappointed in Harrison needs to grow up. His only issue is that Harrsion got caught and that now the secondary is weak.

NFL players are human and make mistakes just like we all have. I would think if any other player in any league got them thru this same internet site they'll be going down, too. We'll see. It's not the end of the world.

PS- the Patriots announced they released Randy Moss -:)

Hey! I like Felger for once. :)

Especially since Merriman used an actual performance enhancing anabolic (Nandrolone in his case) which is many times more anabolic than testosterone.
Read up dude. Nandralone is not overly anabolic and if Merriman was taking it regularly he would have tested positive several times.

Re: Felger-Harrison

Wow, just woke up after moving my stuff to my new place, and i am very disappointed to hear about this. Rodney is one of my favorite Patriots and to hear this is just disheartening. I am almost at a loss of words for this, I know that a lot of the guys in the league use PED's but I really expected better from a guy like Rodney. I know he apologized and all but that does not excuse what he did. I really hope he works hard to redeem himself, which I know he will, but still it hurts meto hear this. Good luck Rodney on the road back.

Yeah, I'd like an answer about that as well. When I was injured in a helo accident in the Navy, HGH was a part of my recovery regimine, along with PT and other meds, etc. It was prescribed and administered by military doctors. I didn't give it a second thought.

All I know is that I can walk again, and have a fairly normal life. How much of that was due to HGH I can't say. But I don't have any long-term problems because of it, either.

Respects,

That's probably no different than Lance Armstrong's situation. He took a whole ton of stuff the bicycle people have banned; but since he did it according to good medical science on doctor's orders, he's off the hook. Who knows? Perhaps there's a medical study going on right now that'll eventually show that what Rodney did was actually medically sound. They're pretty slow when it comes to investigating new drugs and new ways to use them and they're more concerned about getting people like you walking again as opposed to getting Strong Safeties back on the playing field. All you can say for sure is that nobody's determined that what he did is safe and effective. You sure can't say that he was definitely exposing himself to harm since this is a drug the body produces naturally.

I wonder why Vrabel hasn't condemned him to the 7th circle of hell yet like he did to Luis Castillo before the draft.

I support him but still a stupid idea in first place.
Was it? How much did it help his recovery? What if without it he wouldn't be ready to play until next year? If he plays in the playoffs because he took HGH, how many of us will wish he wasn't playing and was still on IR?

Everytime a guy gets injured badly, it seems his recovery is ahead of schedule. Maybe some of the speedy recovery times are due to HGH.

I don't know the answer, but I do know that sometimes you are better off breaing a law and paying the fine than you are obeying the law.

I was just thinking that Vrabel's situation sure seems to point to guys like Manny Ramirez, who never, ever talk to the media about anything, really are the smart ones.

He cheated. Period. If you say that it's OK, then I guess you have to say that its OK for other football players or other athletes to take HGH. What about high school kids? Is it OK for them?

NFL suspensions are likely not the objective of Federal or New York State prosecutors. He's a pretty high-profile NFL player, and this could result in his indictment on federal or state charges. The "obtaining" part of this sounds potentially ominous. This could get a whole lot worse.

I thought most HGH stuff you get is NOT the hormone but what you get is
something that stimulates the body into producing HGH?
Even the injections are NOT the hormone.
If someone knows a company selling the "Hormone", I'd like to know.

Higher HGH levels apparently does help injury recovery.

Lots of new members seem to be joining our board tonight, I for one am SHOCKED, can't see them actually coming on to talk football, since their respective teams don't measure up.

Trolls. I wish someone could just have the power to ban them other than the admin.
