New England Patriots Roster Projection 4.0

Steve Balestrieri

Keep in mind that the 53-man roster of September 3 changes, as we've seen thru the years, quite a bit by the end of December.

Don't see Anthony Johnson as similar to Flowers at all. He's the inside tackle we wanted Easley to be IMO. I think we will regret it if we try to get him on the practice squad, he's the combination of size and skills many teams are looking for, as the big [Knighton] tackles become devalued.

Flowers is the long arm outside guy, reminiscent of Chandler Jones, not the compact bowling ball like Anthony Johnson. Also, that's a role no one on this team is ideally suited for, with Kuhn being the closest.

It seems pretty clear to me now.

With Mitchell and Martin both dealing with injuries, I don't think four WRs is an option. I'd drop Gaffney for now to make space, he should clear waivers. Other quibbles: J. Jones over either LeBlanc or King. Otherwise, I'm right with you.

Trade Leblanc for Roberts or Jones and I agree with you.
Would love to get Dobson on somehow but in this offense Martin is a better player.

I refuse to put Dobson on the roster. I will not do it!:p Adding him means a good player on ST, O or D is waived. Doesn't seem the right thing to do IMO.

I am assuming Mitchell and Martin will be ready to go in 10 days. I think they might line up Foster at WR for a game or two in sub packages or play more TE sets until they are.

I agree on JJones > King & LeBlanc. I'm reading the tea leaves more than anything.

Develin and Gaffney are not ahead of Boldin
Gaffney to PS
Dobson makes it if Amendola is on PUP
Develin is competing with Harbor for the last TE spot
I think he wins the spot unless we use 10 OL
Cooper to IR (only 9 OL)
He can come back later if needed.

Defense has 2 question marks:
5th CB (thinking LeBlanc or Roberts)
And
Either Grissom or McClellin
I'm leaning toward Grissom

It seems pretty clear to me now.

Fleming and/or Karras should go to practice squad before we cut the only Rb who can play in the regular offense besides Blount.

I'm thinking Cameron Fleming will clear waivers, not sure about his PS eligibility, but I think Karras would get claimed.

If Brandon Bolden gets cut, it isn't going to be to give Dobson a roster spot.

I'd love to find a way to keep from having to keep Richards on the roster.

I did my roster and came out with 55 I would really like to keep :

That leaves off Rufus Johnson, Elandon Roberts, Jonathan Jones, Ted Karras all of whom I would hope to get to the PS.

As I am at 55 my last two cuts would be Flemming and either Gaffney or Grissom, both of whom I would also hope to get to the PS. I'd prefer 4 Tackles but Thuney can play there in a pinch and Flemming's just not that good.

This is what I've got. Frankly, the only tough decision was cutting Geneo Grissom, though I think he could make it to the practice squad. I think it's pretty clear Gaffney was on the outside looking in as he was the only running back who didn't play with Brady last night. He'll make it to the practice squad, there isn't anything special about him.

I might consider dumping Dobson for a veteran running back if one gets let go that would be an upgrade, and Amendola would definitely replace Dobson if he's ready to go in week 1. Dobson's definitely the last guy on the roster, and only makes it because Mitchell and Martin are dealing with injuries.

Primetime those are my thoughts too. Not worried about Gaffney being scooped up and if Blount goes down we can move him to the 53.

Great job. I think Grissom makes instead of Foster. Because Foster will probably make it to practice squad. Grissom won't.

What Runningback can we go after to boost the roster I'm sure calls will be made my guess they try to trade Dobson for a Runningback they like to beat the wire.
I'd offer up to a 5th for Mack Brown or wait to see who gets dumped in a busy backfield should be fun.

True. I think we tend to overrate fringe skill position players and underrate front seven players because they're less flashy. It's likely every team has a UDFA running back they see some promise in, so Foster's probably not going to be a hot commodity, while Grissom was a third-round pick and plays on special teams.

Two receivers to keep a eye out for on the waiver wire.
Jordan Taylor Broncos looks like a Hogan clone
Robby Anderson Jets looks polished.

Wide receiver isn't exactly an area where the team's in desperate need of back-of-the-roster undrafted guys cut by teams with worse wide receiver depth than the Patriots.
