NFL might be planning to release "a summary" of PSI findings

I wouldn't trust the information without seeing the data to back it up. Room temp at 1st measurement, weather conditions, temp of room at halftime and timing of measurement for each ball etc...

The timing release is curious as the OP points out and I wouldn't put it past Goodell to cook these numbers to release them ahead of the NFL appeal in early feb.

This 100x over. The only way the numbers they release say anything at all is if they record the starting PSI, temperature on the field, the temperature in the locker room, and how long each individual ball was indoors prior to measurement.

Even then, I wouldn't trust the NFL to release accurate numbers.

They need to make another one called "Making a cheater." It can start with cameraplacementgate.

Great idea my only concern would be that it could diminish the seriousness of Making a Murderer, which is as serious as it gets.

No one can stand this story anymore, if the NFL do insist in this fraud, I believe they will shoot themselves in the foot, so bad the Pats dropped 2 games, ok 12-4 it's good but 14-2 besides the HFA would shut down this story once and for all.

Pats post-deflategate: 14-2 , #1 in the stat that says which team is better not fumbling the ball, what else the morons are going to say?

Uh oh, I just thought of something. What if Goody comes out and says "sorry guys, you're right. It was the weather all along, our study shows it. We're sorry to have done this to you. Here's your picks back."

Brady and company would be so confused they might slip up in their prep! Reverse psychology??

For all you conspiracy theorists, this should come as good news.

It means the league is legitimately scared of the Pats advancing and have a built in distraction in place if they do.

The poll on ESPN shows 50% of the respondents most want to see Pats-Carolina followed by Pats-Cardinals (24%?)

Does the NFL* REALLY want to try and influence the Pats to lose?

That's an amazing result considering that most (IMO) of the Panther/Arizona fans would rather play Denver in the SB.

I don't understand the speculation on this - The PSI data they collected and will set forth will according to NFL prove that deflation occurred nefariously one year ago - Why? Because the NFL is still in court about this and they will not release anything that will make them look bad in light of the lawsuit. Even if the data supported the Patriots, the NFL would skew it so that it would not - You cannot trust the source that is collecting the data - This is all about making the NFL look good regarding this case and that is it - They want to win.

.........and Goodell will say it's all for the sake of integrity. Integrity not measured with fairness is not integrity at all. The NFL has proven that it cannot be fair. This was never about integrity, this has always been about control. Control of 31 team owners with their own personal hatchet man named Goodell.

If the NFL had any integrity whatsoever they would help St. Louis with the $100 million they still owe on the stadium that will now be empty.

It' not in the league's best interest to release figures that are damaging to their case , so the figures are likely doctored. The league already proved they are not beyond lying to further their case so why should they stop now.

I was passing though channels and stopped on Smelger and Smazz. Noticed on the ticker it said "Report says NFL WILL release the PSI data sometime next week. It will include the data from the Pats/Texans week 15".

Yeah, because the Texans game is a real good indicator. If that report is released, it can't be good for the Pats. Just can't.

One of the key flaws in the Exponent Report was that there was no available accurate estimate of the time in which the balls had been in the locker room at half time when they were measured. Since the balls were taken from the outside cold weather conditions to the warmer air of the locker room, the time in which they were sitting in the warmer air is critical to the assessment of what their temperature would be had they been allowed to reach equilibrium at the warmer temperature.

There isn't any data the NFL could release on 2015 game balls that would replicate the measurement conditions of the Exponent report balls, since, for one thing, nobody knows what they were exactly.

Classic agency problem. It's in the best interests of the NFL as an organization to maintain a level playing field. But it's in the best interests of the specific executives in charge of the NFL to harm the Patriots, in order to conceal their own malfeasance.

Usually agency problems are dealt with by competition. I'm beginning to wonder whether the root cause of the corruption we are saying among the executives should be addressed by antitrust litigation: without competition, the executives may not have an incentive to act fairly.

I don't know, it's outside my area of expertise.

This is crux of the matter.

The process the NFL is using to gather data is not designed to tell us what happened in the AFC Champuonship game against the Colts.

They are measuring balls before game time at room temp and then measuring them again at half time, inside, presumably at room temp. They will almost definitely show little or no deflation given this scenario.

But by leaking a cryptic story to Florio, they've created speculation that they have something meaningful to reveal when in fact the whole process they are using to measure the balls tells us nothing about what happened or didn't happen last January.

From what I heard, they didn't record any of that stuff on the new measurements either.

To me the only worst case scenario out of this for the Patriots is a warm weather game showing a lower PSI for Patriots balls, giving the impression that whatever they were accused of doing might still be happening. Anything else is irrelevant.

And anything like that would no doubt have been leaked a while ago.

Another leak from the NFL headquarters during preparation for the AFC championship game. Goodell and his henchman will try and do whatever it takes to keep the pats out of the super bowl. Integrity..........

This is the point. They are releasing the notice that they MIGHT release data next week so that all the mediots line up in pats locker room and ask all 53 players 'what do you think will come out?' each day this week. They want to distract pats now, not necessarily slam them next week with their certain to be bogus crap data.

If they intend to release any info to make them look good in court, IMO if its not 100% stupid proof it will without doubt be worthless as a piece of evidence. Should they indeed measure in the same place as the first measurement before the game this will get laughed out of court IMO.
