This was more than a little over my head, but he also provides photographic evidence of how Exponent tried to make the two gauges look as similar as possible. That's a lot more relatable to people than different warming rates.
Also, to build on something Upstater posted, the McNally and Jastremski texts only seem suspicious if you assume that manual deflation took place (which is what Wells and the NFL did.) When you look at them from the point of view that there was no deflation, which is what the science shows, you can't conclude that they are talking about illegally declating footballs.
