Expect a big move cap-wise

The really rough thing here is that there are so few players making "big money", to make a reasonable amount of cap space you'd have to cut a fair number of solid players.

You would have to move a Solder a Cannon a Ninkovich a Chandler Jones to free up cap room.
Chandler or Solder make some sense.

Is this unusual that we are bumping the cap at cut downs? Don't we need a cushion for in season signings? How much space do we need to clear? My solace is that nobody manages the cap better than BB, so he has a plan.

If that plan included extending Cannonfodder the same week he played the worst game of his career,
then Bill needs Plan B.

The thought of getting rid of Amendola and Wayne is crazy! I expect both to make the team, but if one goes its gonna be Wayne for harper, but that is doubtful. We know what we have in Wayne and know he can produce if he knows the offense. Harper, while a nice story seems more apt to a practice sqaud player. I hope we can keep him and developed higsm over the next few years because he does have potential.
Wayne will be 37 in Nov.In the last 2 years he has scored 4td. Amendola will be 30. He has scored 3td in last 2 years. Total cap figure Amendola 3.116,666 Wayne 2,503,125 2015 hit if cut A=1,366.666 we save 1,165,ooo
Wayne=tcf 2,503,125 Hit if cut 450,000 we save 1,468,125 Do you still think its worth it?

Wayne in 2 ps games, has caught 2 passes out of 11 targets for 24yds. He should retire.

I dunno. I hear what you're saying, but the uncertainty of the LaFell situation may have caused them to bring him in.

They don't normally hand out 450k to a player they don't feel has a decent shot at making the team, particularly this close to the start of the season.

On top of that, Wayne was quite injured last season and still played through the pain to help his team. He seems to have shown some progress in picking up the playbook (another reason I think they had genuine concerns for LaFell's potential to miss 3-4 games. You don't bring in a WR this late in the preseason and pay him like that unless you're concerned).

Amendola?

Amendola?

Hard for me to imagine him agreeing to a pay reduction to stay with the team, only to end up getting outright cut months later, particularly when he's had a good summer.

Again, if the LaFell injury is cause for concern, and I think it is due to the last minute signing of Wayne + the reports that he shed the boot twice (early July and recently), then WR may not be the position to look for here.

I believe we would take a 1M hit if we cut Dola.

Throughout this exercise and after reading all these solid, thought-provoking posts one thing is clear..

There is no way they could have kept Revis without two top players leaving.

Truth. WTF are the Pats trying to do with him. The Colts who know him better than anyone knew he was done so they let him go. Wayne at 37 will run as well as in his prime? Haha.

Well, it looks like signing Revis would've been suicidal. It makes me wonder if they didn't know that going into the negotiations. In which case, why bother? To screw the Jets? The Jets now have problems because of Revis and the precedent setting Suh contract.

I think because of age, that Vollmer is more likely. That and a Brady restructure or a Solder signing should do the trick ........ a high 2nd rounder or another player (with an OK contract) (Mankins, Part II).
"That and a Brady restructure". How many would that be? Brady's contract must look like the house that Jack built.

With that said I still favor the Patriots ability to evaluate Wayne than the Colts do.

How many WRs have provided decent seasons at 37?

If he was healthy last year he would have had a 1000 yard season. He can still produce.

He's been sitting around all offseason and has been here for only two weeks and is still getting acclimated to the offense.

Us old guys need extra warm-up.:D

Since 10 of those passes came from Lindley and none had either Gronk or Edelman on the field, I fail to see the significance of the stat. You also want us to overlook that the guy has literally been here for about two weeks.

I'm not even a Wayne backer (as some here can attest), but that argument doesn't hold much water.

He wasn't healthy and that's the point. His body is breaking because father time forgives no one.

Still haven't anwered my question. How many WRs have provided decent seasons at 37.

What is a decent season?

How many WRs at 36 years old have caught 60+ balls for 700 yards?

Different player. Different era. Different circumstances.

Solder was a little banged-up last year but sheesh, he seemed like a rookie out there.

There is an understatement if I ever saw one.

Nate Solder revealed he was diagnosed with testicular cancer prior to the 2014 season.
