All of the other fines I think are ridiculous but I could live with them. But they're taking our 1st rounder for this pathetic ****..

Unbelievable. Unbef*ckinglievable

Truth is : you can win in January when you miss a QB to start a season. They want to level the playing field by harming the team.

The worst part is that it is GONE. No way to get it back.

Didn't the report friggin exonerate the Patriots and claim it was all on Brady?

Goodevil knew Brady would appeal so he fined the Patriots and took draft picks knowing full well nothing can be done to get them back no matter if Brady wins his appeal or not (he will).

Friggin JOKE.

Goodell is universally unpopular so he made a move to make him self look good for 31 owners, 31 fan bases and the "average" American.

In the process, he's broken the antitrust exemption so hopefully there's a big push for it to get removed off the back of the breach.

That is what is bugging me the most too. How can they just arbitrarily take a draft pick after the report indicated Belichick and the team knew nothing. I think Brady will appeal and win, but the draft pick is gone. Where is the precedent? Favre-$50000, Chargers-$20000, Jets-$100000. Patriots-$1M and draft picks. It is insane.

This was timed to be after the 2015 draft. They could have done this 3 weeks again so we'd lose the #32 pick in a bad draft.

No.

Instead we now could lose a MUCH higher pick in a stronger draft.

BY DESIGN.

They wouldnt take draft picks if someone takes steroids? PEDs are way more of an advantage than under inflated footballs.

Corruption.

The league can't take any chances. The Rats need all the help they can get.

I'm pissed beyond words..goodell is a piece of garbage

If I'm not mistaken, players can appeal but a team cannot?

What I am thinking is this: Brady will appeal, and ask for arbitration rather than Goodell handling the appeal. At that point the whole "independent investigation" and subsequent mockery of a report will be exposed as a sham. That will result in Brady's suspension being lifted.

Once that is done, the Patriots should appeal their punishment, because the Wells report was a primary part of the reason for the fine and loss of draft picks.

The only thing Goodell would have left for rationale would be the Patriots being "uncooperative". The Pats could counter that by saying that the findings of the (truly) independent arbitrator support them - hopefully to a point of exposing the whole process as a sting and a witch hunt. However, I think Goodell would still stick with that alleged lack of cooperation to justify the egregious penalty - but it would be worth a shot.

A #1 pick won't destroy the franchise. A good free agent can replace the pick. The Patriots have 3
or 4 compensatory picks next year.

I can't even form rational thoughts I'm so pissed right now.

This feels like a cross section of 2 movies. Idiocracy and Wag the Dog.

Definitely think the NFL should not have taken the Pats #1 . . .

. . . and I'm a Jets fan!

Why not 2 1st round picks ?Whats the big deal it is the Pats afterall,,, 31 teams would be ecstatic . Its obvious the NFL wants to dissolve the Pats.

The report exonerates BB and Patriots upper management of having ANY knowledge of wrongdoing or directing concerning 'deflategate'. If that's the case how does docking the team picks make ANY SENSE!? KRAFT better FIGHT THIS!!

The thing that sucks too is if they acquire another first round pick in a trade for 2016 (say Jimmy G does great and the Pats trade either him or Brady), the Pats must give up the higher pick. So say they trade Brady for the #1 overall pick, they lose that pick. So if they do trade Brady or Jimmy G, it will be for a 2o17 first.
