This is BB's obsession with drafting super Boy Scout DBs and WRs. Ras-I Dowling was another super-boy-scout DB. But I have news for you BB, most WR and DB are not Boy Scouts.

What is so infuriating about this pick is that BB did not seem to learn from his mistakes with Tavon Wilson and Ras-I and Darius Butler and ...

If BB employed a GM who made all these horrific second round picks, BB would have fired him by now.

As manx pointed out, Caserio was the representative at Brown's and Richards' pro days.

I'm beginning to think I'm thinking of a different BB than the one people want fired. Yeah his second rounders have been a tad questionable but all our first rounders have contributed. Hell even Maroney was huge in the 2007-08 playoff run.

Seems this stuff was desired not long ago.

Come on... It's 1 hit. You can find 30+ DB prospects with a couple hard hits here & there.

  1. Mark Daniels @MarkDanielsPJ
Richards: "My goal coming to New England is just be a sponge and absorb, absorb, absorb."

  2. Richards knew the Stanford playbook so well he knew the jobs of every position on the field

Jeez Bill, you could have saved the pick and just given Ernie Adams a helmet.
(Yes, I AM having a little fun with this - - I'll definitely root for the kid, and hope we find some good OG's as well).

Funny, people were complaining a few months ago when the Pats let Browner go that his physical presence and hitting set a tone for the team. Over the years people have said this team needs a Bryan Cox (who was a role player who could make big hits).

So if Richards can make it on the field, he could be the tone setter people want on this team.

The great Allan Pinkett once said

"I've always felt like to have a successful team you've got to have a few bad citizens on the team. They would have two or three guys that were criminals and that just adds to the chemistry of the team."

Hernandez really screwed the pooch getting caught.

We have 4 picks in the first 3 rounds. If we hit on 2 out 4 then we are good. You aren't going to hit on everyone and we still have back to back picks coming up.

I'm wondering if Bill had Richards as the best player available on the board or if he had safety as an area of need. If that's the case that would be surprising as I would think other than QB and Tight End, Safety was one of the strongest and deepest positions on our team.

Well if you hit on 3 picks a year you did fantastic. We will see what happens.

BTW, we need to draft a Rutger. Who's left?

Or that blocking TE with the bad back [can't remember the name] or that guy who's team lost every game and never played more than one year at a position.

He just wastes those second round picks. How about that German guy who hardly even played football except a couple years?

You're late to the convo. I wrote "for every Vollmer, there are 3 inexplicable reaches in the 2nd for BB".

Gronk was not considered a reach. They traded up for him and this board was wildly enthusiastic about it that day.

Goddammit, that is an awesome pick for the Jets

Who do the Pats select next? Predictions?

I think the "problem" (and I use that word loosely) is that with the exception of Chung all the Safeties a bit samey (excluding Ebner who's just an STer).

If Richards can push and eventually take over from Chung then the pick is fine.
