Shorts is just shy of 6'0. He's over 200 lbs. He led Jax in terms of receptions each of the last 2 years.

He can line up anywhere, has good burst off the line to get open. Excellent cutting ability and good elusiveness after the catch..

His stats the last two years have been more because of the QB carousel and horrible team in JAX than anything else..

What I don't know is his attitude and work ethic, though the college scouting report said he had good character and was coachable..

This could be good, under-the-radar signing.. Not to mention that WRs (and RBs) haven't been getting the outrageous contracts we've seen in the past.

take him over stevie j

He's at the top of my list for free agent receivers.

He might be a diamond. 4.35 on his pro day. "At 6-0, 202, Shorts has decent size and enough speed to beat defenses deep" (17 catches for 20-plus, and five for 40-plus on just 105 targets in 2013). He has played with crap for QBs. He is bigger than Harvin and suited for short and intermediate passing attacks, but has the speed to take the top off.

GOOD FIND. I did some research. Only 27. I see him as protection if JE or DA get dinged. Same size as Reggie Wayne and about ten years younger.
Pettine said. "That turned out to be the case, but he is a guy that gets overlooked. Part of it too is he's missed some time because of injury, but when he's out there I think he is an elite receiver in this league."
Good hands and precise route running is often characterized as Shorts' skill set as a wide receiver. Speed is not the key component to his game.
"He's strong at the reception point," Joe Haden said. "When he touches the ball, he's going to catch it. It's really hard to knock the ball out of his hands. He's not the fastest guy (4.35 Joe?) , but he runs solid routes. He's solid in everything that he does."

Same here. He's the only guy who I would actually get a little excited about if they sign. Everyone else out there is pretty 'meh' to me, either because they're too old, too expensive or overrated. Shorts seems to be the guy out there with the most value.

Love Cecil. I wanted Harvin but, now that he's in Buffalo, I'd take Shorts over Stevie Johnson. He would put up some very nice numbers in this offense.

Had no clue Shorts' athletic numbers were so flashy.

Considering we're not looking for our #1 or #2 guy I'd certainly love to bring in Shorts to compete for the #3 spot, a role many players production could thrive in in our system due to not being the focus of the defense they are on previous rosters.

Much as I want defense to be the free agency priority I would love to see them sign Shorts and Bush then trade for Mathis.

Jets were supposedly interested in him...

I'd like to see him on the Patriots though

I think Cecil Shorts would be a great pick up and I'd be excited to see what he can do in our offense.

IVAN Cousin ..Perfect!
I see it the same way. Now the other two i might add plus a Bonus gamble.
I think DL Rubin will be a steal. Lombardi knows him. And the other is CB Perrish Cox.

Look at this link. Shutdown corner? This guy might be a very good addition and still young:
http://cover32.com/49ers/2014/10/02...rs-the-best-shutdown-corner-in-the-nfl-today/

"Perrish Cox is a great athlete. He can run with just about any receiver at any level, and he is proficient in man to man as well as zone coverage.

While Cox may be a great cornerback, he is an even better kickoff return man. He is Oklahoma State’s all-time leader in kick return yards, and he owns numerous Big 12 records as well.

This versatility and raw athleticism will make Cox very valuable to many NFL teams looking for an upgrade in special teams. Cox also has the attitude that he can shut down any corner in the league. He knows how talented he is and this confidence could carry over to the next level."

He is bigger at 6' and 200lbs. . He is only 28. He has 18 PBU and 5 Ints. He might have a little 'tude.I am sure BB can address that.

Bonus Gamble is Greg Hardy. He might miss some of the first games like Browner but what a value-add. Evidence was shaky and "victim" was MIA for court. But the NFL will still punish him and he lost millions as well. Resurrect your career here Greg! Can't tell what the Pats would do on this one. Was not convicted on anything but public opinion.

Stevie has been a WR1 before. I don't see that potential in Shorts, who has been the king of garbage time yardage.

sure, better than wasting another pick on a WR that we all know will be a bust!

I agree on Cox and would be OK with Rubin but I wouldn't want Hardy. There is a really strong likelihood he paid off the victim of his assault to disappear and the depiction of what he did to her was really awful. Don't want another Aaron Hernandez on the team, one was more than enough.

I would love to have Shorts but have always thought he would be too expensive. But, the fact that we haven't really heard much about him may mean he's not getting a ton of interest and may not be too pricey.

I would be very happy with either Shorts or Stevie Johnson.

What about Crabtree or Jennings?

The thing about shorts is he's a very very hard worker with a tuff background. This has lead to him being a very good community/ high character individual. The patriots and Kraft love these kind of people.
